The Botanical Garden is one of the most beautiful gardens on Madeira, with marvelous views overlooking the city of Funchal. Located on the Bom Sucesso Estate, the gardens and property date from 1881 and were created by the Reid family as a private park. Today the property is open to the public, hosting many international visitors daily. The gardens cover an area of 80,000 square meters and are home to a fascinating collection of plants. The gardens and park also have an area dedicated to research and conservation. On the drive up the hill with your guide, you can enjoy magnificent views over the city. Once up in the Botanical Garden, your guide will provide you with enough time to visit the gardens, with admission tickets paid separately. In addition to all these attractions, the Botanical Garden also has a Museum of Natural History, well worth a visit for those wanting a little more scientific information about plants. On this six-hour tour you can tailor an itinerary with the help of your local guide/driver. You can choose the different areas you want to visit. The City of Funchal, the Fishing Village of Câmara de Lobos, the west sea cliffs of Cabo Girão, the unique Fajã dos Padres, the hill side village of Monte, the east coast cliffs of Garajau, the Botanical Garden, or even the breathtaking mountain views of Nuns Valley are all possible options for your tour itinerary. You can choose to visit Funchal city, learn about its history, and see some of its iconic landmarks, like the Sé Cathedral. If you'd like to go up into the mountains, Nuns Valley might be an excellent choice to visit on this tour. Another alternative is to explore the west coast, with a ride to the fishing village of Câmara de Lobos. You could also head up into the hills to the top of Cabo Girão cliff where, at its highest point,  a glass sky-walk provides you with some breathtaking views over the south east coast and beach below. Close to Cabo Girão is Fajã do Padres, a sea side area in Madeira with no road or walking access. The only two ways to get there are by cable car ride or by boat. On the way up to Cabo Girão and Fajã dos Padres you will be able to admire an ever-changing landscape along the winding roads that fallow the natural shape of the hills. On the return trip to Funchal from the west coast you might choose to stop at the natural swimming pools of Doca do Cavacas. Travel on to Garajau, set at the east end of the bay of Funchal. You will be offered a spectacular view of the Christ the Redeemer statue - older than the one in Brazil - whilst marveling at the crystal-clear waters on the beach below. You also have the option to visit the Botanical Garden. Whatever your choice of itinerary, your guide will be there to help you at every moment.

This tour of the west, begins in the fishing town of Câmara de Lobos. Then you will journey up to Cabo Girao, which is the highest cape in Europe, and the second highest in the world. Take in the breath taking views, of both the sea and the island. After being on top of the world, continue to the charming rock Encumeada to see the bountiful view of Serrad’agua valley. Head to São Vicente, where you get the best perspective of the Laurisilva forest. This forest covers largest parts of the island, and is famous for the caves carved long ago, from volcanic activity. Continuing north, go to Porto Moniz, known worldwide for its natural lava pools. There will be plenty of time to swim in these unique formations, if you are up for it. We throughly enjoyed our night tour of the Christmas lights around Funchal and got to see places that we would have never walked to, and our driver pointed out places of interest, the car a VW beetle open top was great such a fantastic experience,could recommend to any one wanting to do a night tour of the lights.

Great way to see the Christmas lights, especially if you are limited in how far you can walk. Lovely gentle drive through the city in an open top VW. Great driver and very professional. Well worth doing.

The lights are beautiful and we would never have seen so many by foot. Wilson was a super guide and made sure we saw the best of them. A perfect thing to do in our last night in Madeira.
