Queimadas Natural Park 5-Hour Guided Hike

1. Queimadas Natural Park 5-Hour Guided Hike

Spend time in nature during a 5-hour guided walk in Queimadas Natural Park. Travel from Funchal to the park and follow your mountain guide on a moderate trek through the wild. This walk winds along the walkway of the levada (irrigation channel) of Caldeirão Verde at an elevation of 3,248 feet (990 meters). The levada is an impressive work of art built in the 18th century, beginning in the main stream bed of the Caldeirão Verde brook. Passing through steep cliffs and mountains, it carries the water that runs off the highest mountains of Madeira, which culminates in the irrigation of the farm lands of the parish of Faial.  This levada is used for agricultural purposes, but it is also an important means of reaching the interior of the deep valley of the São Jorge brook on foot. It also offers a spectacular view of the mountainous terrain of the interior of the island. On your route, you will also have the opportunity to walk through tunnels carved by hand out of the rock.

What people are saying about Funchal

Humoriously, Lightening and a sunny trip.

Suitable for history, humor and momentum. Our driver, Bruno, was 110% customer service, but still kept the crowd alive like a primary school teacher. The brawls were like Savolainen's mouth. And as the bends of the mountain roads became terrifying, the view of the landscapes began to flow. The tour focused on stopping at viewpoints and the schedule was tight. Walking and levada walking I would have expected included. Maybe something else. However, a good glimpse of Madeira from the east and north.

Excellent informative friendly efficient guide and driver. A brilliant trip overall certainly glad we decided last minute to undertake it Thank you Bruno !! Only slight disappointment was the lack of Levada walk .. we were looking forward to that .. otherwise worth doing for a Tour of the East & some of the North coast of Madeira !!

A very nice hike with an experienced guide who led safely through the beautiful nature.

Super nice guide and wonderful lunch - it’s worth every penny!

Amazing views!

Jorge is a great guide! Relaxing yet very interesting trip
