Full description
Depart from the meeting point at Funchal's Lido or take advantage of a free hotel pick-up in selected areas. The first stop is at the beautiful viewpoint of Terreiro da Luta, located a few kilometers outside Funchal. Next, drive toward the mountain of Pico do Arieiro. At an altitude of 1,818 meters, the third highest peak on the island offers breathtaking views. Once you've been to the highest drivable peak in Madeira, head back down through forest on the way to the coast. Admire some of Madeira's emblematic straw-roof houses, pass pretty villages and get stunning seascape views. Arrive at the very eastern point of the island for some superb panoramas of the north and south coasts. Discover the popular start point for the levada walks, Ribeiro Frio, on the northern slopes of the island. See interesting trout pools and original vegetation. Madeira was once completely covered by laurissilva forest, a relic from prehistoric times. Stop for lunch in Santana, characterized by its small, thatched triangular houses. Past Portela go towards Ponta de São Lourenço, situated in the eastern part of the island. This is a place where a fantastic combination of rocks, sea and nature combine. The last town to be visited is Machico, a view point where you can look over the bay and the golden sandy beach.

This tour was interesting to see the East coast of the island. Unfortunately for us the weather was rainy and cloudy at the start of the trip so we didn’t get very good views at Pico do Arieiro which are spectacular. Santana was the main stopping point here which was lovely. The rest of the stops are mainly view points but also beautiful. Our guide Marco was a lovely chap and had great knowledge of the island. The roads are very windy so something to bear in mind if you get travel sick! Would recommend this tour.

You won’t be disappointed by this tour. It was one of the best things we did during our recent trip. You see so many points of interest during this tour and beautiful parts of the island. You won’t regret it! Well worth the money as well. I want to give a special shout out to Nuno, our tour guide, was fantastic! Really knowledgeable and entertaining.

Driver/guide was very helpful. As the highest point was covered in cloud with no views the group was asked if we wished to drive up. If only one had said yes we would have gone. The driver tried to find an alternative activity (the Rum Distillery) butfound out that this was closed owing to the coronavirus, He was concerned and apologetic that the day was not as it should have been,
