Full description

Discover world-famous paintings, sculptures, and tapestries with this timed entry ticket to the Accademia Gallery in Florence. See iconic pieces by Michelangelo like 'the Prisoners', 'St. Matthew' and the statue of David. View works by other famous masters like Bartolini.

Admire the 5.17-meter marble statue representing the Biblical hero David, a favored subject in Florentine art. The statue soon came to symbolize the defence of civil liberties embodied in the Republic of Florence, an independent city-state threatened on all sides by more powerful rival states and by the hegemony of the Medici family.    In the adjacent rooms, which were part of two former convents, important works of art are collected here from the Academy of Design, the Academy of Fine Arts and from suppressed convents.  Recently the Gallery has been further enriched by the important collection of old musical instruments from the Cherubini Conservatory, the Department of Musical Instruments.

We enjoyed our experience touring La accademia to see our buddy, David. The instructions on where to pick up our tickets and where to get in line were very clear & the officially running the gallery had it down to a well oiled operation. Crowded, but not unbearably so, unlike the Vatican museums.

Exchanging the voucher for our tickets was easy and the queue to get in was well organised and the wait not too long. Once inside the experience was wonderful with so many art works to study as well as David. Although there were a lot of people inside there was plenty of space to see everything and to take your time. The statue of David was amazing and stiff were very helpful and knowledgeable.

It was slightly chaotic but I believe it’s because they’d been closed the morning for a union meeting meaning all the earlier bookings were late. Lots of angry people floating about. But we did manage to get in the queue 5 minutes after our allotted time. I would hope a regular day would be less stressful.
