Full description
You will depart from your hotel in Lisbon towards Fátima, where Our Lady of Fátima appeared to three shepherd children in 1917. Here, you will visit the Basilica where Francisco, Jacinta Marto, and Lúcia are buried, the Igreja da Santíssima Trindade (Church of the Holy Trinity), the largest Catholic sanctuary in Portugal, and the Wax Museum that depicts the story of Fátima, with 119 wax figures set appropriately in the ethnography of the time of the apparitions.  There will also be time to see the Capela das Aparições (Chapel of Apparitions), a small temple built at the request of Our Lady of Fátima when she appeared to the three shepherd children, and Azinheira Grande, the tree that Jacinta, Lúcia and Francisco passed before seeing the Saint.  The tour can be adjusted so as to include the Candle Procession that takes place every day from April 2 to October 31, between 21:30 and 23:00.

Mr. Silva was our tour guide. He picked us up on time, explained, and described the hour ride and the different places we were passing by. He gave a good description of the shops and talked to us about Fatima's history. My mother and I enjoy the candle procession. It is such a beautiful experience. I will recommend it to anyone—such a pleasant private experience.

We lacked more advice from the guide

The guide was friendly but very serious, we were not aware of some things we could visit or do. On the way I talked to him so I wouldn't fall asleep. I would have liked to have more clarity on the activity of the procession since until that moment we knew that it was not included in our tour and that this activity takes place at night.

Unforgettable experience

My husband and I did not know what to expect as we had heard that Fatima had become very commercial, however, we were blown away by the experience. The area was vast but welcoming and had such a reverential feel. We did not feel any commercialism, there were no hawkers or security, just groups of pilgrims and ordinary people wandering around respectfully. Luis, our guide, was very professional and picked us up from our hotel punctually in a clean and comfortable vehicle. He tailored the tour to suit our needs and gave us all the information we needed. We would have liked to stay for the rosary and candlelight procession but it was too late for us (starting at 9.30 pm).
