Ocho Rios Sightseeing and Fern Gully Tour

6. Ocho Rios Sightseeing and Fern Gully Tour

Ocho Rios, Spanish for "Eight Rivers" is a town in the on the north coast of Jamaica. Visit craft markets and fruits and vegetable markets where local craftsmen and farmers carry their local produce to sell. One feature which stands out is the huge clock tower, a once functioning time piece that is over 100 years old. Ocho Rios was once a fishing village but now caters to tourists from all over the world. The name "Ocho Rios" is thought to be a British mistake on the original Spanish name "Las Chorreras" meaning waterfalls, a name given to the village because of the nearby Dunn's River Falls. Learn about Fern Gully, a unique rainforest with a main road to traverse through its midst, boasting over 200 different varieties of ferns. Though the origin of the Fern Gully is uncertain, it is suggested to have been caused by an underground river flowing through caves and later the roof collapsing in, some suggestions are even a flash flood in the 1760s. Many writers such as Marianne North 1871, Lady Brassey 1883, Antonio Gallenga 1873 wrote about Gully Road on their Voyages to Ocho Rios. On the way back from Fern Gully, feel free to have lunch at one of Jamaica's famous jerky center, enjoying the delicious meal with an ice cold Red Stripe beer or tropical fruit drinks. Then spend the rest of the tour in the sun as you relax at Turtle Beach before heading back to your hotel or cruise ship with a heart filled with Jamaica.

Driver picked us up right on time at the lobby of our hotel, we were only two guests. First Stop Rose Hall Great House. There we had a wonderful privat tour. Next Stop was Montego Bay. Just strolling a bit around. as an extra we booked the luminous Lagoon with this tour. A magnificent experience!

We so enjoyed this excursion but what made it all work was our bus driver, Robert! He did a great job taking us to all our excursions! The guide for the falls was excellent as well and we felt so safe climbing the falls!

I upgraded to a private tour and glad that I did. I paid more for the upgrade u the tour was more flexible no rushing.

Great experience. We added the lagoon tour. From beginning to end the tour was great.
