From Porto: History and Food Tour of Aveiro and Ilhavo

4. From Porto: History and Food Tour of Aveiro and Ilhavo

Aveiro and Ílhavo are two neighboring towns with history closely related to the sea, through fishing and marine salt production. Both already important in Roman times, this importance is maintained through the Middle Ages, with references in documents from the 10th and 11th centuries. In this experience we will visit Costa Nova do Prado in Ílhavo, a village founded by fishermen, and which still preserves the famous “Palheiros”, wooden houses that served as housing, shelter and later as a warehouse for drying and salting fish. The day will also take us to visit and learn how a salt pan works. At lunch we will enjoy the gastronomic specialties of the region in a typical restaurant. Once in the city of Aveiro, we will stroll through its most typical neighborhood, where we will be able to admire some of the city's important features and monuments and enjoy a tasting of Aveiro's salted and sweet specialties, paired with sparkling wine from Bairrada or Tea. It will end with the drop-off at your hotel or accommodation.

Porto: Douro Valley Private Wine & Food Tasting with Pickup

5. Porto: Douro Valley Private Wine & Food Tasting with Pickup

The Douro Valley is one of the greatest wine regions of the world, and one of the oldest, existing records of vine growth since before roman times. The terraces built by hand in the steep hillsides, form one of the world’s most dramatic and inspiring vineyard landscapes of the world. Having been born in a traditional Douro family, I will take you on a journey through the region, explaining the local traditions and how it became the landscape that we see today, described by a famous writer as "An excess of nature". During the day you will visit stunning view points, taste 2 Douro doc wines, 2 Port wines and Olive oil at a boutique winery, enjoy the traditional gastronomy in a restaurante mainly frequented by locals, and learn about the region history and traditions, always avoiding the main tourism hotspots. At the end of the day I will drop you off at your accommodation. This are the ingredients that will make you fall in love for this World Heritage landscape, in a day to remember for the rest of your life. lets go?

The Porto transportation card is an excellent way to get around the city if you staying there for several days. If you are in Porto only for one day (like I was), I would recommend paying for each bus/metro ticket instead of the transportation card. It will likely be cheaper. The only downside of doing this is that you will not get the discounts for museums, churches, bars, and restaurant that are included in the transportation card.

There are two options for the Portocard. If you only want to drive and don't want to visit museums, you can drive cheaper. We saw that in the interactive travel agency at the airport. The public transport in Porto is clean and very good. The timing is also very good.

It was so fun and the instructors were nice and very helpful! Pick up and drop off was smooth, no problems at all! We had a wonderful time!

Very convenient for transportation facilities provided & great saving with discount for museum/ tourist spots entry

Bardzo pomocna rzecz dla mniej mobilnych. Transport dociera wszędzie.
