Aveiro and Ílhavo are two neighboring towns with history closely related to the sea, through fishing and marine salt production. Both already important in Roman times, this importance is maintained through the Middle Ages, with references in documents from the 10th and 11th centuries. In this experience we will visit Costa Nova do Prado in Ílhavo, a village founded by fishermen, and which still preserves the famous “Palheiros”, wooden houses that served as housing, shelter and later as a warehouse for drying and salting fish. The day will also take us to visit and learn how a salt pan works. At lunch we will enjoy the gastronomic specialties of the region in a typical restaurant.
