Herculaneum: Tickets & Tour with a Local Archaeologist

1. Herculaneum: Tickets & Tour with a Local Archaeologist

Discover the ruins of Herculaneum, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the world's best-preserved ancient cities. Herculaneum was buried under volcanic material after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD but, unlike the nearby site of Pompeii, a lot of the town was preserved, such as roofs, beds, doors, food, and even skeletons. Walk the cobbled streets of this UNESCO World Heritage Site with an expert archaeologist and get a glimpse of what life was like before the devastating eruption. Explore intact buildings at your own pace, see well-preserved frescoes, and imagine the daily rituals of those using the shops, public gymnasium and public thermal baths that can still be seen today.

Naples: Full-Day Pompeii & Herculaneum Wine Tasting Tour

2. Naples: Full-Day Pompeii & Herculaneum Wine Tasting Tour

Start the tour with pickup from Naples or the Amalfi Coast. Meet your private English-speaking driver who will travel with you for the entire 8-hour tour. Climb into the Mercedes vehicle and set off towards Pompeii & Herculaneum. The itinerary is very flexible and customizable and you can discuss with your guide your preferences. First, head over to the Pompeii archaeological site for 2 hours of free time to explore the ruins on foot. Then, continue the tour to the Volcano within the National Park of Mount Vesuvius. Visit a local vineyard. Enjoy free time for lunch with Neapolitan typical products accompanied by a tasting of different kinds of local wine.  After lunch, or before it, depending on the time, pay a visit to the Herculaneum archaeological area. This site is smaller than Pompeii so the visit will be a bit shorter. Finally, enjoy a convenient return transfer back to your hotel in Naples or the Amalfi Coast.

What people are saying about Ercolano

Riccardo was amazing! He was friendly and helpful. He patiently answered all of my questions, and he spent as long at a given site as I wanted :) But more importantly, he was passionate about what he was doing. It was clear that he wasn't "just another bored tour guide, repeating the same spiel" but rather an extremely well-informed local who was intimately familiar with the site and all of its history and who clearly delighted in sharing it with us. Riccardo actually offered to stay past our two-hour booking time, just to allow us more time to fully enjoy Herculaneum in depth. Unfortunately, we had to leave to catch our train back to Naples. All in all, this was a fabulous experience, and if I visit other archaeological sites, I will definitely look into having an archaeologist as a guide. Highly recommend!

Riccardo was a fantastic tour guide. Trained as an archeologist, he was very informative, interesting, animated, responsive to questions, and also speaks excellent English. His love for his subject came through and his enthusiasm made the tour all the more enjoyable. It was a fascinating experience that we highly recommend.

Renato was very competent, available, prepared. Arriving on time, he contextualized the visit by answering our questions always politely. Being only three made it all the more enjoyable

Riccardi was a wonderful tour guide. He gave us so much information about the ruins that we never knew before. He was a pleasure. Very personable.

Raffaele was exceptional, he told us the story of Herculaneum with passion and enthusiasm. Highly recommended!
