Herculaneum: Augmented Reality Walking Tour

1. Herculaneum: Augmented Reality Walking Tour

Wear your Augmented Reality smart glasses and enjoy a unique, innovative, and immersive walking tour at the archaeological site of Herculaneum. Travel back to 79 AC and see what Herculaneum's squares and houses looked like before being destroyed in a volcanic eruption. Meet your tour leader at Herculaneum main entrance and get kitted out with your glasses before listening to a quick introduction to how to use them. Then, begin your tour which has been designed by an archaeologist team to show you what life was like in Herculaneum before the eruption. The software of the glasses creates holograms that overlap the existing ruins, showing what the most significant temples, houses, and buildings originally looked like. Cast yourself into the bygone age of ancient life in Herculaneum, walking through the city to feel like a Roman.

Meet your private guide at Herculaneum for a 2-hour guided tour of the archeological site. Herculaneum was located closer to Vesuvius than Pompeii, and was buried deeper by the lava, which better preserved the architecture. Admire the colorful murals and other artwork of the homes of wealthy nobles, which are reminders that Herculaneum was also richer than Pompeii. Learn about ancient Roman culture as your guide utilizes the ruins to paint a vivid picture of life during that time. What people are saying about Ercolano

This was the best option I found for visiting the ruins of Herculeum. The technology really bring it together. Having the view of the ruins now and a portray of how they used to look back 2000 years ago is incredible. I will even say a must. We did Pompeii in the morning with a regular guide (a pretty good guide, I will add) was no comparison to having Daniela walk us through same type of ruins, but this time in Herculeum and with the help of the audio and 360° virtual reality experience. It took the tour to a whole another level completely. I felt bad for the other people walking around us and not been able to see what I was seeing with the VR glases. If I had the opportunity, I will go back to Pompeii and go through the whole tour with the VR glasses as well. Daniela, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable and friendly. she made the use of the technology easy. Will recommend her as a tour guide for sure.

The idea of doing AR-assisted tours in Ercolano is really great. It shows you the city and how it looked in its glory days. My wife and I were lucky that our tour ended up being private and our guide Roberta was knowledgeable and passionate about the city and its history. One thing that could make this tour 50 times better is if the AR material included actors playing the role of ancient citizens living their everyday lives. According to Roberta, that's in the works. In summary, you should consider this tour next time you are in that region.

Our guide, Daniela was amazing!! What a pleasure and an honor to have her as our private guide. She went above and beyond our expectations!! Thank you!!!

Carlo was awesome, he guided us at a leisurely pace through the ruins and explained all. We truly appreciated his expertise!

The guide was amazing. Small group, only five of us, and we learned a lot!
