Kampala: Full Day Rhino Walking Safari with Transfers

5. Kampala: Full Day Rhino Walking Safari with Transfers

Don’t forget your camera on your walking safari to find Uganda’s only population of white rhinos. You'll have the chance to get close to these magnificent beasts, which are making a comeback in Uganda, under the watchful eye of a local expert ranger.  Your driver will pick you up bright and early for the three-hour drive from Kampala to Nakasongola district, home of Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. Established in 2005, the sanctuary is home to the only remaining wild rhinoceros in Uganda.  Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary offers a safe environment where rhinos are protected from both human and animal predators. The goal of the park is to encourage breeding to increase the population of white rhinos for gradual re-introduction to Uganda’s national parks.  You will be welcomed by the passionate rangers who will guide you through the rhino tracking activity. The rangers will also explain the safety guidelines which must be always followed, and the inspiring history of the sanctuary.  Make sure you are wearing comfortable shoes to begin your walking safari through the African savannah. Depending on the location of the rhinos in the park, the tracking activity may take 2 -3 hours. This gives you plenty of time to ask questions, take photos and search for other wildlife. While the park's main attraction is it’s population of over 30 white rhinos, there are many other species you may see during your walking tour. Also calling the park home are antelope, monkeys, reptiles and a wide variety of birdlife including the positively prehistoric looking shoebill stork.  Following your rhino tracking experience in the bushland of Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, your driver will take you to Kabelega for lunch and some free time before embarking on the journey back to Kampala.
