Located a short 10 minute drive from downtown Wellington Zealandia is a step back in time to the period before human interference. Since the sanctuary opened we have seen 17 species of native wildlife return to the area, 6 of which were previously absent from mainland New Zealand for over 100 years.
While situated minutes from downtown Zealandia feels like a different world. The rolling hills providing the perfect backdrop for you to explore the many treks and pathways where you will be accompanied by Kākā, Kākāriki, Korimako to name just some of the bird species who roam the 225 hectare sanctuary. Zealandia also hosts an interactive exhibition which tells the story of New Zealand’s unique ecological history. Rata Café provides the perfect pit stop to refuel where you can take advantage of the range of specialized native New Zealand cuisine with a conscious and native twist.

When you get there
Zealandia is located at 31 Waiapu Road, Wellington. FREE shuttle departs daily from i-SITE Visitor Centre, Te Papa and Cable Car FREE transport available from Wellington i-SITE, Te Papa and the top of the cable car hourly from 09:30 – 14:30.
