What people are saying about Wieskirche
Let me say right off the top, this tour is worth every penny, and then some. Mario, our guide, picked us up right at our hotel door, and right on time. He started our day by waiting patiently for us at the bakery down the street while we loaded up on pastries and coffee for the ride. Our ride through the Bavarian countryside included stops in two small villages on a Sunday morning, where we arrived in time to visit first a baroque, then a rococo church, just before the locals came out for mass in their Sunday finest. Mario's local knowledge on subjects from farming practices to politics and the environment provided insights we would never have found on our own. The castle tour itself is almost incidental after spending the morning with such an amazing guide. Lunch was at a local family farm, where everything was absolutely fresh, delicious, and very affordable. I can honestly say that this tour was the highlight of our Munich and Bavaria experience, and Mario exceeded our expectations
We got picked up and dropped off at our AirBnB which was great. Our tour consisted of a couple stops on the way to check out a few churches and a bakery. At Neuschwanstein castle, our tour guide Armin (apologies if misspelled) had made preparations to get our tickets already. All we had to do was get in line to get a bus ride up and we took carriage down based on his recommendations. We then visited a Bavarian cheese farm and had a cheese/meat board and beer. The place had amazing views and was very peaceful and quiet. Armin was very knowledgeable and made for good conversation talking about German history, or anything we had questions about. The only part I would change is the ability to just prepay for the castle tickets online. I knew castle tickets and light lunch was not included but when we paid at the end, we had to dig around for cash. Either ability to prepay more upfront or pay a small percentage more via credit card at the end would be nice. All in all, an amazing tour!
This was a wonderful tour of Bavaria for two reasons -- our guide Mario, and the places he took us. Each place we went, Mario provided interesting history and information. He is very knowledgeable and super personable. His van was very comfortable. Our family of 4 toured with a lovely couple, so it was great to have a small tour. Two beautiful churches and Neuschwanstein, then finishing the day with fantastic cheese, sausage, bread, beer, coffee, and cheesecake at the cheese farm with views of the Alps. Wunderbar! My wife & I, daughter, and son (10 years old) did the tour with Armin and another group of three. Although my wife & I had been to Germany before, our daughter & son had not. Our grandson, Luke, loves castles, princesses and the like, and was thrilled with Neuschwanstein, as all of us were. The trip to the farm where they produced cheese was a real bonus. At first the smell got to me, but the cheese was amazing. I don't remember having any better. We all highly recommend this tour.
Mario (owner of Pure Bavaria tours) runs a first class small group tour. The castle tour is excellent as is the Zugspitze mountain tour. Highly recommend both. Mario takes you through a small village for coffee and pastries on the way out to the castle and to a local dairy farm for a late lunch when you return. Zugspitze mountain has glacier sledding at the top (loads of fun) and is breathtaking. His tours are first class all the way. Would highly recommend.
