From Kraków: Wieliczka Salt Mine Trip
- Transportation included
- Skip the ticket line
- Duration: 4 hours
One of Poland's top tourist attractions, a world-class monument and one of UNESCO's World Culture and Natural Heritage sites. Here's a little bit of history about the mine, and what to expect when you visit.
The Wieliczka Salt Mine began operations in the 13th century, and is the oldest salt mine in the world still in operation.
You can now take tours of parts of the mine, and wonder at underground lakes, intricate salt carvings, and the salt chapels.
Using the medicinal properties of the enviroment, an innovative treatment therapy has been created in the mine resort with a number of wonderful health benefits.
You can choose to stay in the mine in one of the wonderful hotels - enjoying the benefits of the clean air and calming atmosphere.
Make sure to check what events are on when you visit - if you time it right you can see Europe's oldest mining orchestra, or some live salt sculpture making.
The salt mines are open to tourists for tours Monday to Friday 9:00AM to 5:00PM.
Tours last roughly three hours, allowing you to enjoy an extensive look at the mines, learn about their history and see the cultural attractions.
The 'skip the line' only means that you don't have to queue up for a ticket at the location, it doesn't mean you just walk straight in. You are given a set time, usually 20 - 30 mins after you arrive, which is fine if the weather is good. The tour itself is very informative and well planned. I recommend you take some water or other drink as the tour is quite long.
Very interesting trip. Although it is a long day both these activities are worth doing and if you’re in Krakow for only a short amount of time it’s worth combining them. The time on the transport (nice mini bus) is a good rest. Can save money by going on public transport but the ease of this trip made it worth paying the extra.
Absolutely fantastic excursion to see the Salt Mines. They really are stunning and a must-see if you visit Krakow. St Kinga's Chapel takes your breath away! Our guide at the Salt Mines, Natalia, was very informative and entertaining. I'd highly recommend this trip. Thank you!
Very practical, great value. Tour at Auschwitz 1 felt a bit rushed and the tourguide was hardly audible. Lunch could have been planned somewhat earlier (4 o'clock now). Tour guide at the salt mines was great.
an extraordinary experience. both the driver and the guide provided useful information, were very sociable, punctual and organized. and the salt mine is a definitely must see tourist spot
