What people are saying about Villa Borghese

Worthwhile focussed artworks and historical tour

Two hours inside the gallery was enough for us as tourists, the checkin process was a little tricky in that all the other guides were outside in the piazza, but our guide Alex was inside out of the hot sunshine - which was actually sensible really, just hard to find him at first. He was super friendly and knowledgeable and gave us fascinating history behind selected paintings and sculptures, drawing our attention quickly to other not-to-be-missed artworks along the way. We were expecting (for no particular reason) a little train ride through the gardens as it's hard to get around very much of the estate on foot in an hour, but it was basically a guided walk to the city gates and some helpful info for wherever we all wanted to go next.

Further enriched the amazing experience of seeing the artwork

First: this was not 3 hours! It should probably not be advertised as such; it was maybe 2.5 at the very, very most. My tour guide, Luca (sp?) was great. He was funny, knowledgeable, and moved at a pleasant place. We never spent too much time discussing the history and context of an artwork, which was much appreciated given that you are limited to a 2 hour visit within the gallery. Having someone explain the history behind the pieces really added to the experience, and was much better than just viewing beautiful statutes on my own. Our guide was careful to point out the most remarkable details on the Bernini pieces, the hidden symbolism in the Carravaggios, the mystery and the historical significance of the Borghese's villa, and more.

Rome: 2-Hour Borghese Gallery Small Group Tour Reviewed by CHRISTINE, 10/31/2017

The Borghese Gallery is not to be missed.

Everyone should be as lucky as we were to land Alexandro as their tour guide for the Borghese Gallery. He was not only well versed in the history of the Borgheses, which provided enlightening insight into the development of the art collection, but also, as an artist himself, was able to talk about artistic technique and individual paintings and sculptures quite compellingly. He had excellent rapport with all the members of our tour group and we all appreciated and benefited from his personal attention. We would give him our highest recommendation. The three hours with him has been the highlight of our visit to Rome.

A lot of art in one place, many pieces have stories behind them.

The gallery isn't just like any other attraction in Rome where you can just walk in and line up for tickets. But when you do get in, it's definitely worth it. You might end up a little overwhelmed by the sculptures and paintings especially if you are not familiar with the artists who did them as well as the story behind the villa itself; a little research can make things even more interesting.

Rome: Borghese Gallery and Gardens Skip-the-Line Tour Reviewed by Anonymous, 09/19/2017

Magnificent collection of art and sculpture in a magnificent building.

Consider hiring a bike at the end of the tour if you want to see the full extent of the surrounding gardens and visit the highest point for a view over Rome. Guide Christina was very informative and a lovely lady. It was a good thing we had booked our skip-the-line tour early - they were booked out on the day of our tour.
