What people are saying about Varadero
We had a fantastic time and would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a great adventure. I would advise NOT to book online, however, as it was next to impossible to confirm our booking. One of the two numbers we were given on our printout, to confirm our booking, was out of service. The other number was a residential number and they had no idea what we were talking about. It was a very stressful two hours of trying to get someone in the hotel to help us. Book at the hotel, if you want to make this trip, NOT online!!! If you do decide to take this trip, I would suggest that you may want to put together some little goody/care packages, as there are many young children on the drive to the snorkeling place, that stand on the side of the road, in hopes of getting a little something (candy, toothbrushes/toothpaste, hair bows, etc.) They are not begging, they stand there and wave and smile....happy, beautiful children.....that live in utter poverty. Lots to do and see! :)
This is an all day activity, they cover good places. The swimming in cave was a unique experience, we were not able to do snorkelling due to high winds in the sea. The lunch at the farm house was great, overall a great experience. However, the voucher issued by Get Your Guide is not completely valid; it has to be converted to a local ticket by a local Cuban agency. It was my first visit to Cuba, and getting the voucher converted was a nightmare. The local tourist agent in the hotel had to contact the travel agency in Havana; and spent a good 30-45 mins sorting out the reservation details so that the Jeep Safari guys could pick us up the next morning. I suggest booking all excursions with the tour agent at hotel once you get to Cuba; to avoid a lot of headache / lost time / phone call charges etc.
My husband and I booked this trip and were not disappointed. Rosie our guide has to be congratulated for being so amazingly informative fun and keeping the day flowing. A big thanks to the photographer as well. What's not to enjoy snorkelling, swimming in the cave, riding horses, bull riding and the power boat down the river. It was a great day the chance to see some of the real Cuba which is so very different from a hotel complex . There is a lot of poverty and these can be shocking but people are friendly and interesting . Can't recommend this enough a whole day out brilliant .
The food at the hotel restaurant that we stopped at was horrible. Only half of the tour guests went up to the buffet and the food was almost all gone. Had to wait after requesting the buffet staff to reload the pots. In other parts of the world this would not even be considered a buffet. Poor selection. Would be better to reduce the price of the tour and have an optional hour to eat at a restaurant of your choice.
