What people are saying about Vacherie

Easy to book, easy to find location. Started about 30 minutes late. Transportation and historical information provided throughout ride. Nice bus. No frills. Very informative tour once you arrive. Very little time to shop after and that felt rushed. At $67 for adults, feels expensive for what's provided but we didn't have our own vehicle and wanted to go to this plantation. The focus on the lives of the enslaved here instead of the glories of the big house was very important and impactful. Would recommend for this reason otherwise, may be more cost effective to come out on your own.

The driver Joe was excellent. The tour guide was mildly obnoxious and nonchalant of people of color on the bus as she spoke of Xavier University and history of New Orleans; such as the blues was a way for us to express the morning of the “junk” we were going through. She was also a distraction to the driver continuously getting up out of her seat for music for the ride back which at the time was not accessible because of the rural area we were in.

This tour was well worth the trip. Oak Alley is a beautiful home and the huge oak trees are spectacular. With touring the home, viewing the grounds and peripheral buildings, time for lunch was limited so plan accordingly. While Laura is the smaller of the two homes, it was perhaps the most interesting and enjoyable. Both tour guides were knowledgeable and interesting. We would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting the area.

I appreciate the Whitney Plantation Tour because of its emphasis on slavery and telling the stories through the lives of the children of slavery. Cheryl our tour guide was great, she was a no nonsense kind of woman who knew her history and made the plantation come to life. It was a great educational experience.

The self guided feature was great and assisted me along this independent journey. The bus driver lacked clarity on pick up time when he initially announced it, and the seats were too cramped. But overall, a great experience! I’d recommend eating a full meal in preparation for this 5hr excursion.
