What people are saying about Tromsø
This was a great tour from start to finish. The minibus met us on time and we had no problem with our tickets using the mobile app. The guide and driver, Socrates, was terrific. He took us to several beautiful fjords with excellent spots to take pictures. He always gave us time to enjoy the view and take pictures without rushing us. He was very knowledgeable and gave detailed explanations with time for translations for those who spoke little English. We even met a local fisherman and with Socrates translating we went to see his fishing gear and catches. Socrates also allowed us to customize the tour. For example, when he asked we opted out of the bonfire and hot meal in favor of driving further and seeing more scenery and he was happy to oblige All of this was already very high value for money, but what really sealed the deal was that he also helped us into a northern lights tour that evening even though it was fully booked. Our most enjoyable day in Tromso!
We were very lucky with the weather and saw beautiful skies. 5 minutes outside Tromsø already the bus stopped to make the first pictures. The guides were excellent, helping out with the cameras, cooking great food. Thanks!
Here’s how I knew we had picked the right company: We walked into Pukka Travels’ office a few days ahead thinking we might cancel. All the weather maps from European weather services and NOAA showed a cloudy night. The guy at Pukka showed us what he was seeing from his more local weather services—a clear night. Because it was going to be a Kp 5 activity level, really a good level of activity, we decided to keep our reservation. And oh, what a night, lit from so many directions we couldn’t watch it all. And it went on and on, even with lots of purple, a rare auroral color. The level of professionalism continued with Alejandro, our driver, and David, our guide. You may find that Pukka’s tour costs a bit more. Pay it. You’ll get the right tour and any help you may need.
We did three tours this week with Aurora, Pukka and Polar Adventures. Pukka was by far the very best in organisation, thermal suits and real nice hot refreshments. The spot on the beach was great
Arriving at the ice dome, we were greeted by a friendly guide who showed us around the dome/hotel and the hotel rooms. The tour started with a short film depicting how the dome hotel was created from scatch. We were then taken to the ice bar, where we were treated to an alcoholic or non-alcoholic drink in ice shot glasses. Throughout the dome/hotel there are wonderful ice sculptures both small and large. The hotel bedrooms are unique and worth visiting. There is a separate building where you can have lunch, soup and a drink. It is a unique experience and well worth visiting.
