Full description
Start with pickup from Tbilisi and travel into the semi-desert area of Kakheti in southeastern Georgia with your driver and guide. Go offroad in a 4x4 jeep to discover the main David Gareja monastery complexes of Natlismcemeli and Lavra. Relax as your guide shares stories about the region and its significance as a historical and cultural center of Georgia. First, visit the Monastery of Ioane Natlismtsemeli (John the Baptist). Founded in the 6th century by St. David Gareja, discover more about the ascetic lifestyle of these secluded monasteries. See a dazzling variety of paintings, grand cave structures, and spectacular landscapes.

Then, make your way to the Lavra Monastery where you will learn more about Georgia's history and architecture through the Middle Ages. See the tomb of St. David Garjea, which makes the monastery a spiritual center for Georgian Orthodox followers. Enjoy a 40-minute hike in the beautiful Rainbow Hills nearby and discover this colorful landscape formed by volcanic rock and a variety of mineral deposits.

Travel to the village of Badiauri, where you can visit some local bakeries and purchase some traditional Georgian bread. Continue your trip with a visit to the 9th century Bodbe Monastery. The monastery functions as a nunnery and is one of the major pilgrimage sites in Georgia. From its viewpoint, enjoy spectacular views of the Alazani Valley, the main wine-producing area of Kakheti Wine Country.

Arrive in the town of Sighnaghi, the administrative center of the region. Discover its charming narrow streets and organic wineries which have led to it being called Georgia's "city of love." Learn about the rich history of Sighnaghi and admire its fortifications on an optional guided tour. Alternatively, use your free time to roam the streets at your own pace and enjoy a bite to eat at a traditional Georgian restaurant. After some time in the town, return to Tbilisi to complete the tour.
