Full description
Meet your guide at 9:00 AM and set off on foot from the heart of the city, State Theatre, and explore Sydney's historic shopping arcades. Next, head via the newly revitalized foodie hub of Darling Square to Chinatown. Pop into cheap and cheerful Paddy's Market, then stroll through the educational hub of Ultimo with it's cutting edge "Frank Ghery" building. Next, continue to Chippendale, which was recently labeled Sydney's "hippest" suburb.

Continue by minivan to working-class Glebe to sample cafe culture and Saturday markets (or visit the beautiful Grounds of Alexandria mid-week).  From there, drive through the naval base of Wooloomooloo and onward to Potts Point with its quaint European-style art-deco apartment buildings and upmarket restaurants.

You will then continue through the colorful red-light district of Kings Cross to reach Paddington, Australia's best-preserved Victorian-era neighborhood. Next, continue down the queer hub of Oxford Street to Surry Hills for some mouth-watering gelato.

Towards the end of your tour, visit the indigenous and edgy neighborhood of Redfern, which was once a no-go zone but is now home to a very happening secret bar scene. You will eventually end with an insider's tour of bohemian Newtown, with its street art, colorful characters, and great bars and eateries. You will finally end your day with a list of venues to return to, and a sense that you really "know Sydney". The tour ends back at the State Theatre and alternate city drop-offs may be available on request. However, you may wish to continue your evening in this vibrant hub, or take a short train or Uber back to the city center.
