What people are saying about Sugar Making Industry
First off, the meeting point is very easy to get using the MRT. After waiting in the air conditioned office for the tour to start, we jumped straight into the minibus that parked right outside. Our guide Tee gave a great insight into Thai culture on the way to the markets and was very enthusiastic. He also prepped us well for when we did get to the markets with good advice on where to buy cheaper items and food. On the way to the markets, we stopped at a coconut farm where they produce brown sugar and they treated us to a few samples of the sugar and other products they make using the coconuts. You can also buy these after. At the markets, you jump straight to the front of the queue for the motor boats so no waiting in the heat. Tee then showed us the good stalls and left us to roam for around an hour and a half. The farmers boat extra is worth it, a great experience of how the locals buy and sell their produce. Overall, excellent organisation and we had a great time. Thanks.
If you’re considering a floating market tour, look no further than Big Country Vacation in Bangkok for an unforgettable experience. We had the pleasure of having Sarah as our tour guide on this 6 hour tour to Damnoen Saduak Floating Market. Sarah is so knowledgeable, informative and most importantly she’s very kind and makes sure you feel taken care of during your tour. Initially I considered visiting Damnoen Saduak without a tour company, I am so glad I decided not to do that. This was my first time visiting Thailand and the knowledge Sarah has about Damnoen Saduak Floating Market and all the other landmarks you’ll pass on the way is priceless. If your visiting Thailand definitely add this tour to your list of things to do and hopefully you’ll also be able to experience this amazing tour and have Sarah as your tour guide!!
We booked this tour after realising that some of the central Bangkok floating markets are weekend only, our stop in Bangkok was during the week. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour, travel to and from the market was made very pleasant with air conditioned bus, informative guide (we had Sara, she was fantastic!) and a stop on the way at a sugar farm. The tour price included a boat journey into the market through the interlinking canals. The market itself was vibrant and bustling with a huge variety of floating market vendors selling everything from food (would highly recommend the coconut ice cream!), drinks, hats to souvenirs and spices. It’s definitely worth paying the 150 baht to get on a small boat to take you round the market once you get there.
We arrived a little late at the meeting point, our Tuk Tuk driver took us to the wrong street. But Sarah (I think her name is, my apologies if not) was very welcoming and happy to see us nonetheless. We all carried on in a clean comfortable and most importantly a air conditioned mini bus, where we travelled to the market and Sarah was full of really interesting information and very funny to listen to, explaining all kind of things. The market itself was an incredible experience with fairly typical market stalls, but the environment and experience was one in a million, it’s something me and the girlfriend really enjoyed and was a nice way to get out of a busy Bangkok for the day.
Lucky was our guide and was great - she explained the background behind Thai culture and gave us information on each place we visited. She also gave us treats like fruit to keep us going during the day! We found the coconut farm interesting but the floating market however was quite touristy. We were very disappointed that all the shops were selling the same stuff you get in Bangkok and nothing authentic. It also seemed liked we were just taken in really touristy parts of the floating market during the additional boat tour that we took (was not included in the price of the tour). Overall, an interesting experience but lacks authenticity.
