Full description
Founded in 1891, Skansen is located on the island of Djurgården within the city limits of Stockholm. It is the world’s first open-air museum, and features 150 historically interesting houses and farmsteads that have been moved to the site from various parts of Sweden.

You’ll experience the different social conditions in which people lived in Sweden between the 16th century and the first half of the 20th century.

Skansen is also home to 75 different species of animals, including wild animals such as wolves, lynx, elk, and brown bears, and a number of breeds of domestic animals.

Enjoy a delicious meal at one of the restaurants that offer breathtaking views over Stockholm. Be sure to visit the museum shop as well, where you’ll find traditional handicrafts and Swedish-designed items.

If you book the Combo option ticket, you will also be able to enter the Skansen Aquarium. The Aquarium, with the World of Monkeys, has about 200 exotic species such as fish, corals, crocodiles, turtles, lizards, snakes, naked mole-rats, pygmy marmosets and much more. Visitors are allowed in to some of the animal enclosures, such as the lemurs and the animals in the Children's Rain Forest. Feel the breath of free-roaming lemurs or explore the Children's Rain Forest, with its beautiful monkeys. See Golden Lion Tamarins, one of the rarest monkeys in the world and a reintroduction species, with 9 offspring sent to the wild. Get up close with stingrays and admire the tropical reef. You can also look into the mouth of a sun-gazing Cuban Crocodile and be fascinated by other exciting reptiles. You might even dare to pet a snake or a spider!

Value for money

Our visit to the Skansen was satisfying. It is one of the most recommended attractions to enter in Stockholm. There were huge areas to walk around with various type of animals etc. However it will be freezing during Christmas as the museum is mostly outdoor so please wear more when visiting. Overall good experience despite of expensive food and drinks sold inside the museum.

Definitely worth visiting! So much to see and so very interesting.

lovely scenery from up the hill where Skansen open air museum is situated. A place where children can have lots of fun and where adults can learn about how life was like in Sweden many years before now. This wonderful place is definitely worth the EU 18 one pays to enter.
