Full description
After an early-morning pick-up, begin your adventure with a 40-minute ferry ride. With a hot cup of coffee in hand, take the opportunity to view Stavanger from a different perspective and get an overview of the surrounding fjords, islands, and mountains. Your guide will then transport you further to the base of the hiking trail. After a short briefing, embark on your hike to Preikestolen.

Enjoy the Autumn time of year with fewer visitors, stunning flame-colored foliage, and a splendid ambient light which seems to dance across the fjord’s mountainsides. Follow your guide up through the shifting terrain and onward to the mountain’s plateau. This late in the year, weather conditions are constantly changing. As needed, adjust the equipment you use (ice spikes, etc.) in accordance with the changing conditions. Along the way, there will be opportunities to catch your breath and snap photos of the spectacular views around you.

After 2.5 hours of trekking, be rewarded with a panoramic view of some of the most dramatic scenery Norway has to offer. Your guide will serve you a warm drink and snack while allowing you time to enjoy a well-deserved break at the cliff’s edge. Head up to an awe-inspiring viewpoint that overlooks both Preikestolen and the Lysefjord.

If conditions permit, follow an alternate route on the way back down to Preikestolen Mountain Lodge, which will take about 2-2.5 hours. This modern yet cozy lodge is strongly recommended by the local supplier as a place to stay overnight before and/or after your hike. Here, enjoy freshly-baked bread and a well-deserved and delicious bowl of homemade soup between November 1st – December 15th.

While being transported back to Stavanger, your guide will navigate a different route, including a second ferry crossing, which offers unique views of the mouth of the Lysefjord. Conclude the adventure with a stop at the Viking memorial site and artwork ‘Swords in Rock’, made by local artist Fritz Røed. Here, legend says, the Viking king Harald Fairhair’s triumph in battle resulted in Norway becoming one kingdom.
