What people are saying about St. Stephen's Basilica
The acoustics were amazing in the cathedral. Apparently we didn't read the brochure well enough as we thought the pipe organ was going to be the instrument used. My husband's a big fan of pipe organ music. However, the electronic organ and the acoustics for the organ as well as the flute and soloist was astounding. A little confusing as my husband also thought we would be seated closer (which was reserved somehow for other ticket holders). Our chairs were creaky wooden chairs, but the music drowned out the creaks.
The organ concert was great, the building was softly lit on arrival which made a lovely atmosphere. While the organ solo’s were interesting, the several duets with the flutist and singer made for a different and enjoyable concert. Only downside would be that at the end of the concert we were very quickly ushered out the building.
We loved the church, its accustics, the repertoire - organ pieces mixed with sung pieces and pieces for a flute with the organ, all well performed. The staff was very polite and patient with us. It was a great atmosphere and worth the money.
Really beautiful organ concert with some of the most beautiful pieces. A little bit a pity that the concert wasn´t at the big organ above at the back. But we really enjoyd the concert.
The performers beat our expectations. The acoustics are challenging in a church, but the music was beautiful. It is a good way to visit St Stephen's without the rush.
