What people are saying about São Vicente
At first our bus did not turn up, however we rang the office and Lucy was very apologetic and came out to give us a personal tour! Apparently our original bus had broken down. Lucy gave us a 'VIP' tour, all for us as we had been waiting a while. Lucy told us so much about the island and island life that I'm sure we would not have otherwise learned. The caves themselves were very interesting, I would definitely recommend good walking shoes and a light waterproof jacket with either a hood or a hat as you will get wet. I have been to many caves and these ones are different yet again. After walking through the caves you are led through to a video, explaining how the islands were formed. To get to this you go through an area where lots of information has been put up about various volcanoes around the world, but it is a shame that you don't have time to read them. The 3D show at the end is entertaining. Finally the pastel de nata and the apple cake in the coffee shop are amazing! lovely tour
I had great day on the 4x4 tour plenty of stops along the way for toilets, refreshments, tourist shop and to enjoy the view. Even though it was quite chilly I enjoyed the swim in the natural pools in Porto Moniz. I really feel I got to see a lot of the island on this tour and through our guide we learnt a lot about the island as well. Its a very relaxed but fun tour highly recommend it.
This was the first time I visited a volcanic cave, and for a person like me who is fond of speleology it was a memorable experience. I wish I had more time there because I would have liked to have a closer look at the formations, the cave's genesis, and, of course, to take more pictures.
