We went by train to Lisbon and the opening of the site of the National Palace, beautiful. No people despite this period. But then we went to Pena impossible access and 2 to 3 hours waiting .. for the castle. Take that garden which also gives access to the terraces. If too many people avoid the castle.

Another visit made easy by buying online GYG tickets

We used our tickets to visit this palace much later in the day when the crowds had dispersed which made for a much more enjoyable time, the palace is open until 19.00hrs (please check, there may be seasonal variations!) so visiting at 16.00 hrs allows ample time and there are frequent trains back to Lisbon late into the evening.
