Full description
The Transfagarasan mountain road is one of the most spectacular roads in the world. Located in Romania, it runs trough Fagaras mountains and it represents a challenge for every driver because of its sharp hairpin turns. Built between 1970 and 1974 by the military forces, the Transfagarasan has more tunnels and viaducts then any other road in Romania. You'll pass through the breathtakingly majestic landscape of Balea area. See mountains and a waterfall as you visit Lake Balea and Lake Vidraru.

After the scenic journey, stop at Curtea de Arges Monastery, which is the most important pilgrimage and prayer place in the county of Arges. Founded in the time of voivode Neagoe Basarab, between 1512 and 1517, the monastery is a part of the most famous Romanian legend, “The legend of master Manole”. Because of its notoriety and spiritual charge, Curtea de Arges Monastery is to be found on most presentation folders and albums of Romania.

On your way back to Sibiu, stop to admire Cozia Monastery, built close to Călimănești by Mircea the Elder in 1388 and housing his tomb. This is one of the most valuable monuments of national medieval art and architecture in Romania.
