Full description
Please note that the DMZ is closed indefinitely due to African swine flu. In the meantime, this tour will visit Ganghwa Peace Observatory where you can see North Korean farmlands and civilians, 6.25 Veterans Memorial Park, and Imjingak Park. You will come back to Seoul by 2:40 PM.

Depart Seoul and journey to one of the most unusual tourist destinations in the world at the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) on the border of South and North Korea. Created by the Korean Armistice Agreements of July 27, 1953, the 155-mile long military demarcation line (MDL) has a 2-kilometer wide demilitarized zone on each side.

En route to the DMZ, pass Imjingak Park where many statues and monuments regarding the Korean War can be seen. Discover the "Bridge of Freedom" used by repatriated POWs and soldiers returning from the North. Pass through Unification Village and see the DMZ Theatre and Exhibition Hall. Continue to the Third Tunnel for one of the main highlights of your tour.
The Third Tunnel
Explore the massive tunnel dug by North Korea as part of their plan to invade South Korea if war had erupted and the tunnel had not been discovered in 1978. It spans over 1,635 meters and is 2 meters wide and 2 meters tall. It has been estimated that around 30,000 soldiers could move through the tunnel per hour if needed. Once it was found, North Koreans insisted it was intentionally made by the southern army to invade North Korea, but their insistence has been demonstrated to be false. Next, go to the nearby Dora Observatory for some once-in-a-lifetime views.
Dora Observatory
Located on the South Korean side of the 38th Parallel, on top of Dorasan (Mount Dora), the Dora Observatory looks across the Demilitarized Zone and is the part of South Korea closest to the North. Catch a rare glimpse of the reclusive state through binoculars from the 304-square-foot, 500-person capacity building. See the North Korean propaganda village in the DMZ and admire a remnant of the nation's prosperous past. Look beyond as far as the city of Kaesong. Then, marvel at Dorasan Station, designed as the station to connect the railroads of the South and North in the future.

Return to Seoul via Imjingak Park and benefit from a drop-off at City Hall Subway Station or Myeongdong.
