What people are saying about Selfoss
Though booked through GYG, Iceland Guided Tours provided our tour. We booked the 'cruise ship minibus' to ensure the trip worked around ships timetable and indeed, believe tour was priced a little higher for that reason. We disembarked the ship, only to be greeted sarcastically by others who had been waiting some time for us. Our tickets confirmed time 0900 and that at 0840 we were 'early'. Their tickets stated 8am, though the ship hadn't docked at this time, so that feared that they were late. Not a great start! We set off, only to make 4 hotel pick ups (not the cruise special that we had paid extra for!!) They also had differing times and were cold from waiting. Driver Oskar was very pleasant, apologised for the admin issues and encouraged everyone to enjoy their day, which we did. Lots of driving, but some magnificent sights. Highlight was definitely Gulfoss, seen better geysers and was raining at Thingvelier! Still recommend as cruise trip but clarify details with provider.
I has an awesome time rafting. It was fun / beautiful scenery. Drivers and guides were friendly, informative and concerned for our safety. I had a great sunny day. I was VERY dissatisfied with the Local Beer tasting experience. I was the only person doing Beer Tasting. There was a group of about 25 men that had a BBQ /glasses of tap beer/other drinks after rafting. The other 13 rafters had a beer/other beverage on own and didn't know about Beer Tasting. The guide gave me 4 beers, 2 bottles, 2 cans. I felt very overwhelmed, embarrassed and awkward with this situation, with all this beer. I maybe consumed 1/3 of each container, and offered it to others. I feel I wasted a lot of BEER and MONEY. I thought I was going to do this in a group and feel advertising was misleading. I would have been happy with 1 glass of beer like others. You should be more clear with advertisement of Beer Tasting or eliminate it, people can buy there own beer if they want, Rafting-great, Beer Taste poor
Our instructor was fantastic and extremely knowledgable about his country. Not only were we provided with the stunning landmarks but also with a theoretical teaching about the country which was very informative. Additionally, he surprised us by stopping at this quaint dairy farm that wasn't part of our itinerary , to show us how local ice cream was made, which I thought was one of the many highlights of the trip, the ice cream was delicious and the fact that you could see the cow from which your ice cream came from ,made it that much more of an authentic experience which I am grateful for! He was even kind enough to stop us at HALLGRÍMSKIRKJA and recommend a fantastic restaurant ! Thank you (I wish I could remember his name ) for the wonderful experience ! You can really tell he has a passion for this and really values his country and people. It made our trip to Iceland so memorable! We are looking forward to returning to this beautiful county! Cheers, Roukaya and Nassim
We had Oscar as our guide. He was a very nice man who is understandably very proud of his country. It shows in that he shared so many interesting facts about Iceland with us on the tour. Being on a minibus is so much better than a large tour bus. It was more comfortable and more personal. We got to know the other passengers more than if we were on a large bus. Oscar alway took great care of us at our drip off and pick up points. If he explained to us where we would be picked up and thought we didn't quite understand he would very patiently tell us he would pull over at the drop off spot and explain again so everyone is clear. Worth the money for this tour for sure!
WE absolutely enjoyed every aspect of the Golden Circle minibus tour. It helped that the sun was out and temp was nice. Good history, sightseeing and pace for our group of 15. Van was comfortable and stops were frequent enough without feeling like we were constantly getting off and on. Ian Wilkinson was a great and knowledgeable guide. Considering the high prices in Iceland, the tour was a good value. We paid as much for short excursion from our cruise and didn't necessarily enjoy them as much. Pick up close to our hotel was a nice plus. This is definitely a must do trip when visiting Reykjavik.
