After meeting with your guide at City Hall, walk towards the Eternal Flame to see the important landmarks of the area. The Eternal Flame, located near Central Sarajevo, is a memorial for the military and civilian victims of Sarajevo during World War II. From the flame you can see other important landmarks of Sarajevo, which suffered from the major wars that destroyed it. The wars aimed at ethnic cleansing, and were proceeded by a major genocide. Nowadays the city is rebuilt, but still displays noticeable wounds from the past. Following the Eternal Flame, your tour continues to the Sarajevo Tunnel. The tunnel used to connect two neighborhoods with the free parts of Sarajevo during the Bosnian War. It is a landmark of historical importance, as people used it to transport food, clothes, and medical aid to other parts of the city. The construction of this tunnel began in secret in 1993, with the workers of the tunnel working 8 hours daily for just a packet of cigarettes each day.
