Full description
Experience the best travel stories for yourself! Join a local expert and uncover hidden gems on this Lonely Planet Experience.

Explore the street art of Santiago, and help support local ventures such as the Mixart Cultural Center in the San Miguel neighborhood. Hear how they have transformed San Miguel from a poor area of social housing to a living art museum.

Meet your small group on Plaza de Armas, and then escape the tourist crowds by hopping on the subway and heading to San Miguel. Experience a neighborhood straight out of the movies, where people know their neighbors, greet each other on the streets and help one another through difficult times.

Hear the history of the neighborhood and its residents. Stroll past the giant wall murals and discuss the artists and their themes and techniques. The art is quite varied and the stories are inspiring and heartfelt.

Discover more than 4,000 square meters of art in an area that only spans 8 blocks, and learn about the architecture and statuesque buildings that provide a great backdrop for photos. Spend the afternoon with some San Miguel locals inside their home, and share a typical teatime meal of homemade bread, avocados, eggs, sweet cakes and more.
