Full description
The rainforest is one of the planet’s least understood ecosystems. It is difficult to access which makes it a challenge for explorers. On this tour, you'll learn how to explore the wonders of the rainforest in complete safety. Just one hour away from San José, the varied topography of the 1,200 acre private reserve connected as a buffer zone to the third largest national park in the country, the Braulio Carrillo National park dares you to discover the rainforest’s mysteries and incredible wild beauty during a trekking tour led by expert naturalist guides.

If you have an explorer’s spirit and a desire to get to know the rainforest, you will love this adventure. This hike offers plenty of action tempered with time to explore the rainforest and the Corinto River. Your journey begins at the main building of the Atlantic park. You will be among the first ones to board the tram, which will transport you to Tower 12. Along the way, learn about how to properly and safely explore real primary rainforest, and then begin the hike down to the Corinto River. Dense primary forest surrounds you. Along the way there are small but difficult ascents, and at times a bit of mud adds to the adventure and challenge. The hike is demanding, but the rewards are fantastic. The river is gorgeous.

The crystalline waters gather high in the mountains before they run past you on your hike in the middle of an incredible forest. You can take a refreshing dip in one of the river’s natural pools surrounded by nature in its purest form. After a rest on the riverbank and a well-deserved picnic-style lunch, hike back to Tower 12. This time, walk along the trail that separates the reserve from Braulio Carrillo National Park. By the time you start heading back, you will have a new understanding of the intricacy of the rainforest. Now the sweeping panoramic views become something even more rewarding: they become a window into the world’s most complex community. With your guide, you will bring all the day’s experiences together from this fascinating expedition. Back at the main facilities, you can take a shower and get off all the mud, leaves and branches you might have collected during your hike.
