Full description
Located 40 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge, the wine country of the Napa and Sonoma Valleys has blossomed into a premiere destination to sample high-quality wines and explore the newest developments in North American viticulture. With more than 700 wineries representing more than 30 distinct subregions open to the public, the area offers a vast array of varietals, styles, and techniques to suit a full range of discerning palates and thirsty explorers. The secret to this tour is going where the big groups can’t and discovering the the best of what the wine country has to offer with the help of a local, expert guide who caters the trip to the taste and preferences of a smaller, more flexible group.

The tour starts with a morning hotel pickup available at most downtown or Fisherman’s Wharf hotels in San Francisco. Each tour is capped at 13 people maximum to ensure an intimate, small group feel and is led in a luxury limo van with individual seating and leather seats. After meeting the guide and introducing yourself to the rest of your group, you’ll head off to the wine country on a fully narrated, educational tour where you will learn the history of the California Wine Country and how it grew from its humble origins with 18th century Spanish Missionaries to a multi-billion dollar industry rivaling some of the world’s best known wine regions. Each stop is carefully selected to provide a cross section of California wines, from delicate, complex Pinot Noirs and crisp Chardonnays made from grapes sheltered by the cool fog of the Pacific Ocean to full-bodied Bordeaux Blends sourced from the warmer inland valleys.

Although the tour is meant to be flexible and some customization is allowed depending on the preferences of the individual group, there will be between 4-6 winery stops with opportunities to explore the vineyards and cellars and private sessions where guest to ask questions and learn more about the process of making Californian wine. The day will include a lunch stop where guest will have the option to purchase a lunch from an array of award winning boutiques and shops that include local cheeses, olive oil tastings, and additional tastings at your discretion.

After a full day of sampling wines and exploring the best of what the wine country has to offer, you will be returned to your hotel or rental in San Francisco in time for dinner, satiated and prepared for your next Californian adventure.
