Great value to streamline the trip to Samaria Gorge

TOUR == I considered using public transit from Chania to do this trek. But I'm so glad I booked this excursion instead. It made the process so much simpler and even though it was an extra EUR20, for such a long bus ride it was worth it. Tour bus picked me up near my AirBnB (5 min walk), right on time +/- 5 min. Bus was clean, modern, and had good AC. You pay the operator in cash for the park entry (EUR5) and ferry ticket (EUR10) and they got us there without any fuss. Also, as a solo traveler, it was good to know there was someone with an eye out in case I had an emergency during the hike. Note that you can't leave anything on the bus during the day; you have to bring everything with you. HIKE == Beautiful hike! Samaria Gorge was amazing. We got there early enough that it wasn't too hot. Plenty of potable water and WCs on the way. Bring a swimsuit + towel so you can jump into the ocean at the end of the hike! I had about 3.5 hours before the ferry left.

Worth a visit, especially if you like do a lot of hiking

First I was a bit unsure, if this hike was right for me. I do a lot of hiking by myself in my home country and I was worried that it wouldn’t be challenging enough. After all I decided to book it and I am wasn’t disappointed at all. You walk your own pace and there form some small groups. Or you can have the luck that you are walking alone. Even though there are like thousand people in the gorge daily it doesn’t feel overcrowded. If you have a normal/fast pace you have at least 3h of free time to get yourself a cold beer and enjoy your time on the beach. The organization was very good and our guide Thomas was s cool guy. A freaky Cretan mountaineer that has a lot experience and knowledge. If I had a chance I would rather walk in both ways not just down. But hey we are on vacation and we don’t need to overwhelm ourselves. In conclusion it was I nice trip worth the price. I would totally recommend it.

Tour was well arranged and Nikos the guide was very good.

Gorge was beautiful but challenging. Pickup was at 6am and started trekking from 8.15am. Took 6.5hours for a family of 4 with an 8 year old. Very rocky terrain, so have to watch your steps all the way. It can get very hot, so bring a cap as well. Small bottles is sufficient as there are water from the gorge that you can refill along the way, very clean and drinkable. Nikos our guide excellent and advised us on our timings so that we don't complete the gorge too late. Finished the trek around 3pm and took the ferry at 5.30pm. In between you can even swim before boarding the ferry. The bus drop us off at 8.30pm in Chania, therefore be ready for a long day. Overall excellent day and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience even with all the pains in our body at end of the day.

Loved the hike! Guide gave wonderful tips

My partner and I had a great time. Early morning well worth it as it meant we avoided peak sun and crowds. Our guide boarded our bus before you we got to the entrance, he was easy to understand, interesting to listen to and very helpful. Enjoyed the hike, first bit was steep downhill but after that an easy trek. There are taps with spring water so recommended brining a water bottle and just refilling, grab snacks the day before (or can get at a premium with limited selection at little cafe stop in morning). Bring a towel, flip flops and bathing suit so you can cool down with a swim in town post hike. Would recommend lunch at Rousios in Agia Roumeli.

Visit is a must in Crete but guide is only useful for travel

Trekking the gorge was a must, but bare in mind it is strenuous and takes at least 5 hours! The start is early and day is long. You do not get a guide whilst walking! Basically travel from near your hotel location to the gorge and back is provided. This relieves a lot of stress so I would recommend it over public transport. There is a rather long wait between finishing the hike and the boat trip (4 hours). This was actually very welcome as we could spend time recovering on the beach. But just remember, bring swimwear with you as there’s lots of time!
