What people are saying about Salta
Purmamarca is a very small town and 2 hours in it is enough to see everything. I think one day tour to Salinas and Purmamarca is a better fit. On the second day on a way to Humahuaca and back to Salta our bus made a few stops but not so interesting as at Salinas and Purmamarca. On the 1st day our tour guide was Julio who provided a lot of info not only on Spanish but on English for 3 of us. On the 2nd day the different tour bus picked me up in Purnamarca to follow to Humahuaca and back to Salta. I was the only English speaking tourist and all info I got from new guide, Maria, was names of the places and how many minutes we have before coming back to bus. However she spoke nonstop with the rest of the group knowing I can't understand anything. It was very disappointing.
Our guide was Augustine and he was a gentleman, helpful, and very patient. We stopped a lot which made the very long bus ride much more enjoyable. He knew a lot about the culture, the nature, and life in general. He MADE the tour great! Well worth the money! Do plan to pay $200 pesos for lunch though.
This is a good excursion from Salta; it combines scenery you should see with some wine tasting. I was very lucky to have Agostin as my guide. I have some mobility issues and Agostin couldn't help me enough to ensure I got the most from the day.
Amazing day and such a great way to fit a lot into one day! Not only did we get to see a lot of breath taking views, but learned a lot about the culture and history of the places that we visited as well. Augustine was a great tour guide!
Mountains, salinas, cactus, lamas, vicunas, roads, villages. But 14 hrs in a bus, try to avoid back seats.
