What people are saying about Sachsenhausen Memorial

I would encourage everyone to visit. Try to get Martin as your guide.

Meeting place was easy to find. The guide, Martin, was so knowledgeable and informative. The Sachsenhausen camp is not an easy place to visit but Martin took us through the history with great empathy. I would encourage everyone to visit.

This is a difficult glimpse into a horrific past.

Our guide, Rick, handled this most difficult subject matter with great sensitivity and skill. He was extremely knowledgeable and his delivery of the material was at the level of a university lecture. His professionalism was on display throughout the day, from the respectful way he gathered the participants to his style of offering choices on how to assimilate the information to the personalized service he gave to each participant in answering questions, and helping us with anything we needed, including specific instructions for navigating the public transit system to get back to our various destinations. Five stars. *****

An outstanding tour guide makes all the difference!

From the moment our guide, Susan Grouchy met us at the Brandenberg Gate in Berlin, our journey back in time to an era that she knew well since this was the subject of her current study in her Masters program began. The art of factual storytelling is the ability to make your subject matter become real and alive in the minds of your listeners by the choice of your words and how you deliver them to your audience. Susan has this ability. We traveled the same train route to the Sachsenhausen memorial that someone could have those many years ago, walked through the same town and to the same gate and as we did so Susan provided the historical narrative. As I walked looking at the remains of the camp and the places where buildings once stood, her words produced the details of the people and the hazy preconceptions I had brought with me from history books in school started changing form through the tour experience and in the physical reality around me. I will remember this place and the guide.

Excellent guide; made this tour so much more interesting.

Apart from being the hottest day of the year when doing this tour (take plenty of water if doing tour in the summer) I enjoyed this tour very much. The guide made this tour so much more interesting highlighting facts from both the victims side and the Nazi regime side. I would highly recommend this tour.

Must visit!! And the guide really made the difference!

It’s odd to say such a place is brilliant or great but obviously keeping in mind this only means in the shocking history and quality of the tour. People were questioning why the 20min walk but it all becomes apparent upon arrival. Easy meeting place at brandenburg gate, 45min train journey. If you can, you MUST go with the guide Martin... big guy, big beard. He’s from that town, he’s actually German unlike the others. His story and passion really makes it. Heartbreakingly brilliant tour!
