What people are saying about Sachsenhausen Memorial

Not to be missed - if you only do one tour in Berlin it has to be this

Everyone, at least once in their lifetime, should visit Sachenhausen. A truly humbling experience and one that will live long in our memories. Our tour guide "Chris" from Toronto, really brought the whole experience to life. His knowledge of the subject matter was really impressive, as were his excellent communication & inter-personal skills. Highly recommended.

wonderful guide and very educational tour

i went on this tour last week and i can't say enough good things about our guide, lizzy. she was very friendly, organized and upbeat but beyond that she had a wealth of information about sachsenhausen and the nazis conveyed in a very clear manor. the camp itself is very informative, but it really helped to have someone explain the psychology and course of events behind one of the biggest atrocities, and answer questions in depth. highly recommended!

I would encourage everyone to visit. Try to get Martin as your guide.

Meeting place was easy to find. The guide, Martin, was so knowledgeable and informative. The Sachsenhausen camp is not an easy place to visit but Martin took us through the history with great empathy. I would encourage everyone to visit.

This is a difficult glimpse into a horrific past.

Our guide, Rick, handled this most difficult subject matter with great sensitivity and skill. He was extremely knowledgeable and his delivery of the material was at the level of a university lecture. His professionalism was on display throughout the day, from the respectful way he gathered the participants to his style of offering choices on how to assimilate the information to the personalized service he gave to each participant in answering questions, and helping us with anything we needed, including specific instructions for navigating the public transit system to get back to our various destinations. Five stars. *****

An outstanding tour guide makes all the difference!

From the moment our guide, Susan Grouchy met us at the Brandenberg Gate in Berlin, our journey back in time to an era that she knew well since this was the subject of her current study in her Masters program began. The art of factual storytelling is the ability to make your subject matter become real and alive in the minds of your listeners by the choice of your words and how you deliver them to your audience. Susan has this ability. We traveled the same train route to the Sachsenhausen memorial that someone could have those many years ago, walked through the same town and to the same gate and as we did so Susan provided the historical narrative. As I walked looking at the remains of the camp and the places where buildings once stood, her words produced the details of the people and the hazy preconceptions I had brought with me from history books in school started changing form through the tour experience and in the physical reality around me. I will remember this place and the guide.
