What people are saying about Rotorua

Our guide was exceptional, our experience was memorable.

Louise, our guide, was incredibly inviting and informative throughout the entirety of our trip. We spent about three hours driving through beautiful countryside learning about New Zealand’s history, agriculture, and Maori culture. We went to both Wai o Tapu Geothermal Park and the geothermal park/Maori culture park at Te Puia. The former was beautiful, and Louise made sure we knew how these geothermal areas were used by the Maori. Te Puia was an amazing experience, as we were graciously invited to participate in a welcome ceremony and performance, and toured the on-site school that teaches traditional arts and culture to new generations. It was extremely interesting (and heartening) to learn about the Maori and see the work being done to preserve their traditions. Walking through the rest of the park, we even got to see a geyser erupt amidst the smoking craters and pools. The day was extremely memorable, and our guide was one of the most pleasant people we met.

Fantastic, fun, and completely unique trip.

The Rotorua Lakes Duck Tour was a fun ride. How often do you get to ride in a genuine WW2 amphibious landing craft, and drive around on the roads in the same vehicle? Shelley, our guide, was fun and entertaining, although her jokes are really groan-worthy (just kidding). The look on the face of a driver in the car next to us as we came back into town and 20+ idiots in a DUKW blasted out a cacophony of duck calls was priceless. The views of the lakes were great, both from the road, and from in the lakes themselves. Note to Shelley's boss: we had at least 100 cars and a family of snails backed up behind us going up the hill outside Rotorua.

Tarawera and Lakes 2-Hour Duck Tour Reviewed by David, 10/08/2018

Show was good. Dinner average. Night tour was disappointing.

Also the tour operators only had our names for the dinner& not the night tour. They quickly accommodated us after seeing the tickets but that should have been streamlined better to avoid unnecessary stress. Also it was raining so heavily that the night tour was a total waste in spite if giving us umbrellas etc. the guides were super nice but with rain & pitch dark, there was no point in the tour. For the kiwi encounter which we were all looking forward to, all we saw was a blur darting off.

Lovely dinner and beautiful song and dance

We enjoyed very much the hangi dinner with lots of delicious food to choose from. It was all well organised and the haka song and dance was beautiful. We were also lucky to see the geysers in full action. It is although very “setup” for tourists so if you expect authentic Maori people living in their houses then don’t go here.

Fab not to miss, one-off experience. Excellent crew engagement.

So glad I did this, as the whole trip from the boat ride (seeing dolphins), chatting to the other international passengers, was unmissable. nothing was too much trouble for the crew, amazing tour of the island, and a packed lunch of a healthy variety. Would definitely recommend .
