Full description
Start the day early with hotel pickup before hitting the road. The first stop on your tour will be Hamiton Gardens, where you can get a tea or coffee and stretch your legs as you wander through the beautifully kept and stunningly unique gardens. Following that, you'll visit the Waimangu Volcanic Valley. The Mt. Tarawera volcanic eruption caused dramatic landscape changes that created the world’s youngest geothermal valley. Explore Waimangu through a variety of self-guided nature walks, hikes, and interpretive signage, feeling the unique geothermal features as you travel.

You'll pass through regenerating forest whilst experiencing bird life, botany, and the culture and legacy of the Waimangu Volcanic Valley. Waimangu is a must-do eco-experience for those who wish to experience New Zealand’s unique ecology, botany, and geothermal features.

After 1.5 hours' exploring the Volcanic Valley, it's into Rotorua City. You'll have an hour in Rotorua for a lunch break, after which you can choose to explore on your own or stick with the van for a short tour of the city. The city tour will include the Government Gardens, Lake Rotorua, and Te Arawa Waka Taua (a Maori war canoe).

On the way home you will make your final stop at the Blue Spring, at the Te Waihou Walkway. It is internationally acclaimed with water so pure it supplies around 60% of New Zealand’s bottled water. The spring is fed from the Mamaku Plateau, where the water takes up to 100 years to filter. The resulting water is so pure and clean that it produces a beautiful blue color whilst simultaneously being virtually clear. After being badly degraded by visitors and swimmers over recent years, the council has placed a swimming ban which has seen the springs recover to their former beauty in a big way.
