What people are saying about Rotorua
Louise, our guide, was incredibly inviting and informative throughout the entirety of our trip. We spent about three hours driving through beautiful countryside learning about New Zealand’s history, agriculture, and Maori culture. We went to both Wai o Tapu Geothermal Park and the geothermal park/Maori culture park at Te Puia. The former was beautiful, and Louise made sure we knew how these geothermal areas were used by the Maori. Te Puia was an amazing experience, as we were graciously invited to participate in a welcome ceremony and performance, and toured the on-site school that teaches traditional arts and culture to new generations. It was extremely interesting (and heartening) to learn about the Maori and see the work being done to preserve their traditions. Walking through the rest of the park, we even got to see a geyser erupt amidst the smoking craters and pools. The day was extremely memorable, and our guide was one of the most pleasant people we met.
I was looking for activities that my 11 year old son would like while still exploring the beautiful New Zealand landscape and came across the Luge. We took a 20 minute taxi ride from the downtown area and it cost about $30 NZ. I pre-bought the gondola ride and luge tickets but you still have to check in. The line wasn't long for us, so not a big deal. The gondola ride was lovely, which surprised me because both my son and I are afraid of heights. Great views of the forest and the Rotorua area. The luge has three paths, scenic; intermediate and advanced. You have to be over 10 do the intermediate and advanced. the paths go through the redwood forest. You get a brief lesson on the luge which is all you need. I only did the scenic but my son did the intermediate. You take a chair lift back up and they will slow it down for you if you need. Overall a great time. We went down 3 times and spent no more than 2 hours there. Great fun!
Had a great time(even though i sleep half the day, as i have been on the move for 20+days) Andrew was great , very very intune with New Zealand and its culture and true compas to the hidden gems that lye within. Cave was cute (been in bigger and much wetter) but the guide on the tour was fun and has the most amazing voice. Angels usually don’t walk with us , but she must be on loan. . Hobbition was as much fun if not more than my last visit in 2012. Guy was a great tour guide and I enjoyed the spark in his voice that even got my NOT LOTR FAN wife happy and enticed to ask more. Thanks to everyone that made this day great. PS its the little details that make any adventure more that expected and the ostrich and trubine side trips were fun. Spend a little time deciding how you are going to present them and everybody will love them. even though who cant stomach a suspension bridge.
Love the entire activity: from Hobbiton to Rotorua and Waitomo Caves. Booking was easy breezy. Got Confirmation via email right away and coach service/driver was very precise with pick up time (which i like!) at the hotel where we stayed. Just a little glitch for me was the time allotted for lunch and tour at Te Puia in Rotorua. Felt like we had to rush our buffet lunch just so we’ll have ample time for the tour of the area (which is kinda huge). So we ended up not being able to go around some more coz time wasnt enough. Somehow, we also wanted to enjoy our lunch after the Hobbiton activity. But all in all, it was great! Thanks! No hidden whatsover (fees, incidents, etc) unlike other tours we have experienced from diff countries with other companies.
If you don't have a lot of time left and you're in hurry, go for this trip and you shouldn't be disappointed! Right, everything was kinda rushed and I just wish there was more time in Rotorua but c'mon, there's no other way to see these all places in barely one day! The guide made sure everyone is safe and sound and on time.
