Top Five Things To Do On A Rome Walking Tour

You can't turn a corner in Rome - the Eternal City - without coming face-to-face with its extraordinary history. Why not make the most of it with an expert leading the way on a walking tour? Here's just a taster of the options.

Sistine Chapel

Book a tour of the Vatican Museums for deeper insights into Michelangelo's famous ceiling, as well as stunning frescoes by the likes of Botticelli and Perugino, Raphael's teacher.

Eat well

Avoid the sub-par tourist traps on a foodie tour with a city native. Seek out the best restaurants and market stalls between sampling local faves from gelato to succulent supplì.

Jewish Ghetto

Jewish Ghetto

Once the worst corner of the city, today Rome's Jewish Ghetto boasts superb restaurants and gorgeous landmarks, including two grand synagogues, the Jewish Museum, and the ancient Teatro Marcello.

Piazza to piazza

Piazza to piazza

Rome's piazzas are where the local culture blossoms into life, and they play host to many of the city's most iconic landmarks. Don't miss the Piazza della Rotonda, Piazza Navona, and Campo de' Fiori.

Roman Forum

Roman Forum

Don't leave without visiting Rome's most revered archaeological site for an unparalleled glimpse into ancient life! It's just a short stroll to the Colosseum and Circus Maximus, too.

Planning Your Visit

How do the free tours work?

Free walking tours are perfect for those visiting on shoestring budgets or simply unsure how much to pay in advance. You might not be surprised to hear that they're not strictly free, however. Remember your guide does this for a living so bring some cash in order to tip them what you think it was worth at the end. Otherwise skulk away guiltily!

Can you do it yourself?

Rome's city center is almost wall-to-wall with significant landmarks. There are few cities so easy to tour with just a map and there are even apps available for further guidance. For a truly enlightening experience, however, you can't beat a good guide! And with so many distractions along the bounty of sights, you'll probably find sticking to an expert itinerary to be your best bet.

What people are saying about Rome

Interesting & Informative with Excellent Tour Guide

Our Tour Guide (Frederico) provided a tour that was both interesting & informative with some humour thrown in. Excellent! Both the Colosseum & the Roman Forum are well worth visiting, and we were pleased we had a tour guide to help us understand all we were viewing. Please note you will not be able to get around the whole site in 3 hours. Also the tour has many steps to climb so can be tiring, also make sure you wear suitable shoes/clothes. Been on a tour allowed us to skip most of the queuing for the Colosseum, whilst the queue for the Forum was quite small anyway. I would certainly recommend this company based on our tour.

Our guide was outstanding with a deep passion for the history of Rome

Excellent tour. Only 8 people so easy to ask questions. Must have been a slow day as there was no line to "skip" but that made the tour that much better. Tour lasted longer than expected as our guide was truly excited to show us Rome and answered all our questions in great depth. I am sorry I do not know his name as he made the tour beyond awesome.

Francesca was fantastic, a true font of knowledge. A great tour.

The government suddenly decided that everything should be open to all during this week, Cultural Week, so our Skip the Line tickets did not work which was annoying. Francesca did her best and got us into the Forum as quickly as she could but the queue fir the Colisseum was painful.

Fabulous tour lead by a superb guide - Mikaela

This was a thoroughly enjoyable and exciting experience as the venues were recently featured in a documentary on British television but more importantly our guide, Mikaela was awesome. The pace of the tour was perfect and it was clear that Mikaela genuinely wished for everyone to have a great experience. She is a very knowledgeable woman who pitched the information sharing exercise perfectly by including a little humour along the way and some comparisons to the world we know today. I absolutely recommend this tour which included 3 sites, one of which was outside the city centre, and thus required a short coach journey (all included) to explore the catacombs beneath the roads of the suburbs. Thanks Mikaela - you were excellent!

Exceptional guide -Flavia- was full of knowledge and elegance.

Flavia, our tour guide was exceptional and she’s a Gem full of knowledge and she delivered the entire tour with grace and elagance. I would definitely take another tour and recommend it to others.
