Book a tour of the Vatican Museums for deeper insights into Michelangelo's famous ceiling, as well as stunning frescoes by the likes of Botticelli and Perugino, Raphael's teacher.

Avoid the sub-par tourist traps on a foodie tour with a city native. Seek out the best restaurants and market stalls between sampling local faves from gelato to succulent supplì.

Jewish Ghetto

Once the worst corner of the city, today Rome's Jewish Ghetto boasts superb restaurants and gorgeous landmarks, including two grand synagogues, the Jewish Museum, and the ancient Teatro Marcello.

Piazza to piazza

Piazza to piazza

Rome's piazzas are where the local culture blossoms into life, and they play host to many of the city's most iconic landmarks. Don't miss the Piazza della Rotonda, Piazza Navona, and Campo de' Fiori.

Roman Forum

Roman Forum

Don't leave without visiting Rome's most revered archaeological site for an unparalleled glimpse into ancient life! It's just a short stroll to the Colosseum and Circus Maximus, too.

Planning Your Visit

How do the free tours work?

Free walking tours are perfect for those visiting on shoestring budgets or simply unsure how much to pay in advance. You might not be surprised to hear that they're not strictly free, however. Remember your guide does this for a living so bring some cash in order to tip them what you think it was worth at the end. Otherwise skulk away guiltily!

Can you do it yourself?

Rome's city center is almost wall-to-wall with significant landmarks. There are few cities so easy to tour with just a map and there are even apps available for further guidance. For a truly enlightening experience, however, you can't beat a good guide! And with so many distractions along the bounty of sights, you'll probably find sticking to an expert itinerary to be your best bet.

What people are saying about Rome

Good tour of the Forum and Colosseum areas

Silvia was a very good, cheerful and personable guide who coped well in hot weather despite some of the group not being physically capable of completing the tour in full. There are too many ruins in the Forum to really understand the layout in the time available but it was a good introduction for further reading. The Colosseum was the centrepiece and did not disappoint. Again, there was too much information to digest at the time but Silvia's explanations whetted my appetite for more. So, definitely worth it and I would recommend this tour to others as long as they're fit enough to handle all the walking.

A mind blowing exposure to more art than can possibly be comprehended

This was a very good tour of the Vatican's treasures. The guide, Adele, was knowledgeable, personable and kept us all together as a group. The meeting place was a little chaotic due to the sheer number of people milling around looking for their group. Perhaps some numbers on poles would help with identification. It was great to visit the mythical Sistine Chapel, although disappointingly some people there (not necessarily in our group) were incapable of keeping quiet as instructed by the staff.

Efficient coordination, Very thorough explanation by local guide

Overall excellent experience. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a guided tour of the Vatican. The guide (an archeologist) not only had excellent knowledge but was full of passion in providing the details as necessary without burdening with too much info.

Worth every penny! I definitely skipped the line!

This tour gave me access to the Colosseum floor, which many other tourists couldn't access - they had to stay at the top level. The tour guide was very informative. I was impressed!
