Full description
The eruption in AD 79 spelled a fiery end for Pompeii, but the catastrophe also almost entirely preserved the port city under layers of Volcanic ash. Thousands of years later, you can still explore the eerie streets and step inside homes, bathhouses and fast food places.

You’ll travel from Rome to Pompeii in an air-conditioned private coach, accompanied all the way by your expert tour coordinator. Benefit from skip-the-line entry as one of Pompeii’s own officially licensed guides shows you around the city, painting a vivid picture of life in final days before the eruption. Throughout the ruins, you’ll come across death casts: plaster recreations of unfortunate citizens preserved by the superheated volcanic ash.

In addition to the guided portion of your tour, you’ll have time for wandering and picture-taking in Pompeii – followed by an authentic Neapolitan pizza lunch (if option selected).

It’s a short coach ride from Pompeii to the foot of the volcano that still looms above it. A half-mile hike from the parking lot takes you right to the sometimes still-steaming crater of Mt. Vesuvius – still perhaps the most dangerous volcano in the world.

During summer months in rare cases of inclement weather or strikes, the crater of Vesuvius may be closed to visitors. In this case, an alternative visit to the Archaeological Museum of Pompeii or similar will be included.

In the winter months, when Vesuvius is closed for hiking, the tour travels from Pompeii to Naples, with historical commentary from your tour coordinator along the way.

Pompeii was fantastic and it was an exciting tour with a good guide. However, we would have liked a little more time to look, admire and take pictures - the trip was going strong! After Pompeii and lunch we went on to Naples, where we had an hour to walk around on our own. This part of the trip was, frankly, a bit pointless, and we would rather have spent longer in Pompeii or returned to Rome earlier.

Matteo (our guide) was very friendly, helpful and funny. The bus journey was great, the story tellings about history was told in a good way where information and facts weren’t just said straight, but there was wit to them. Pompeii and Naples were both beautiful and exiting. Overall a really good day out, glad to have had such a good time as it was our first holiday at 18 year olds.

A bit disappointed that due to it being closed to hikers due to being out of season we could not go up vesuvius but we're offered the chance to visit naples instead, this being the case the tour option for vesuvius should be removed. Despite this we had a great day we met our city tours guide Kylie at Piazza del Popollo and headed for the bus. A 3 hour journey was broken up by a brief pit stop which was welcome. Once we got to Pompeii we were split into 2 groups and paired up with very passionate and knowledgeable local guides. We had Enrico, an Al Pacino lookalike, to show us around and he was very knowledgeable and passionate about the ancient city. After several hours we then climbed back aboard the bus and went for a very enjoyable pizza lunch. We then went onto visit Naples, which to me was the most disappointing part of the tour, its not the nicest of cities, before making our way back to Rome.
