What people are saying about Rome
I had printed vouchers which said I had to go to the piazza dei cinquecento to redeem them. I got a bus to the bus termini and across the street is the GYG bus stop (green bus and green stop with GYG on it). On board I was given a paper ticket for 24 hours use. Travelling from the terminal to the Trevi Fountain/Spanish steps took an hour and a half. We got off here and had lunch but this area is very busy and crowded in places. We later hopped back on the bus and went to The Vatican City to see the attractions there. To go around the red route staying on the bus takes approximately two hours depending on traffic. The next day we used the tickets again to go to The Colosseum/Forum/Palatine and also visited the Monumento a Vittorio Emanuele II (well worth a visit) and went to the church and Orange Gardens which the tour informed us of. Tickets can be bought on board but cheaper in advance. If a bus stop is near you, ask operator to redeem vouchers to save going to the termini to do so.
First the negatives. We had trouble find the nearest bus stop - we asked about 4 different people and they all sent us to different places - information needs to be clearer. We sat on the top deck where there were no windows - unfortunately it was a very cold day and we were frozen! But on the plus side, it was so informative and the information provided was very interesting, informative and useful and being able to get off and on at will was great.
Hop on ( don’t get off) allows you to have a quick tour that will give you a great idea where everything of short break importance is. Then have a spot of lunch, get your map out and have a walk to all the major attractions for a close up. Tip if you get a mobile app is to work out what colour bus you need to get on. Bit tricky if you don’t know. I didn’t so read your email fully.
I really enjoyed the experience but I wish that communication and timeliness were improved. I had to call find the stop nearest to me. Additionally, the sign said that the bus comes every 15 minutes but we waited much longer than 15 minutes for the bus to arrive. With this in mind, I still think the tour is solid. We were given headphones and the bus was air conditioned.
Sitting upstairs on an open sided bus was a perfect way to explore the sights of Rome on a very hot dayLearning a bit of the history of the amazing remaining structures and the way of life in ancient times has inspired me to find out more and go back to explore in more depth. I would highly recommend this tour.
