Full description
Set off on a day trip from Montreal and leave the driving to your experienced bus driver. With daily departures during summer, travel to the little-known whale watching area Rivière-du-Loup for a 3.5-hour cruise on the St Lawrence River.

Depart Montreal's downtown and travel in comfort as your friendly bilingual guide shares local insights with you. On arrival at Rivière-du-Loup, climb aboard the AML Levant for an incredible encounter with the giants of the sea. Your cruise will meander along the St Lawrence River into the heart of the Saguenay-Saint Lawrence Marine Park. Enjoy a tasty boxed lunch on board. Your Naturalist guide will share the history of the region, the islands, and ancestral lighthouses.

Whilst most people think of Tadoussac for whale watching in Quebec province, discover how marine mammals are actually more numerous at Rivière-du-Loup. Look out for seals, minke and fin whales, seen regularly, and humpback whales, seen occasionally. A herd of belugas also calls the St Lawrence River off Rivière-du-Loup home. Observe rorquals, porpoises, and other marine species. After your cruise, re-board the bus for the return journey. Stop for a delicious evening meal on the way back to Montreal.

Surrounded by minke whales. Families of beluga whales enjoying themselves. Squadrons of gannets diving in the attack. Mobbed by grey seals. Awed by a fin whale passing by. What more could you ask? The early start and the six hour journey to Rivière du Loup was well rewarded by the brilliant cruise and the animals and birds which greeted and entertained us from start to finish. We had a break on the way there and dinner in Quebec on the way home. A good packed lunch on the boat with water and juice sustained us with the energy to look and watch and point and gasp at the action all around us. This was a truly great experience and worth every dollar!

Nice day trip! Whale viewings may be better in the zodiacs although.

Picked up in the morning a few minutes late and wasn't entirely sure where to be as we didn't see anyone. We had ample time to get to the location so no issues with that. Stops were made along the way which made the journey comfortable. The cruise itself- of course you will not see whales like you do in the pictures/documentaries. Perhaps a better view could have been obtained on the zodiacs as opposed to the bigger cruise vessel. Bring long range zoom lenses if you have & want to snap some photos. We spotted the white heads of the Beluga whales, the tails of about 3-4 humpbacks & saw the water spouts as the resurface & a seal. All were at a distance of approx 100-150 meters away hence the advice to bring long range zoom lenses. It is a nice day out & on the beach before departure you can see a lot of krill in small puddles of water at the beachside. If your intention is to see whales up close & personal- this may not be a trip for you. The journey up & down from Montreal is long!

Cruise that keeps its promises (animals guaranteed)

Good and magic overall but: Lunch (sandwich). Expeditious and basic evening meal (be careful chicken fillet = nuggets). Return bus was running too fast to return before midnight, really dangerous.
