Full description
Described as the 8th wonder of the world, Milford Sound is a journey, not just a destination. Embark on a day trip through Fiordland National Park and the Te Wai Pounamu World Heritage Site in a luxury coach from Queenstown.

Depart Queenstown for a scenic journey south between The Remarkables mountain range and Lake Wakatipu. Along the way, enjoy informative commentary about the region, its history, and natural surroundings. From Te Anau, enter Fiordland National Park on the stunningly scenic Milford Road. Take in the grandeur of the untouched wilderness that surrounds you on all sides, from rugged mountains, hanging glaciers to ancient mossy rainforest, punctuated by crystal clear streams and lakes. Sit back and relax as your driver points out the sights and provides light commentary. There will be plenty of photo stops and time for you to take it all in.

Arrive in Milford Sound in time to board your cruise vessel to get up close and personal with the wonders of the fiord. Take in the beauty of the waterfalls and towering peaks, with commentary from an experienced local guide. Penguins, dolphins, seals and a variety of birdlife call Milford Sound home so keep your eyes peeled for that once in a lifetime photo opportunity.

We took the bus to Milford sound. The ride was winding up and down mountains but our driver was very knowledgeable and gave us good info on the sights. We took an airplane back which was spectacular! I was a little scared to take a single engine plane but our pilot was very competent and reassuring. The views were incredible. I am glad we saw the topography by both ground and air - they complemented each other.

This was a dream come true for me as I have always wanted to visit Milford Sound. My only negative was that it was a very long day with 6 hours spent in a coach. Also, make sure you check the departure time on the day before your tour. Our times had changed due to road issues, but we weren't notified. We would have missed the bus if we had not personally checked the day before.

We caught our bus (and were dropped off) just steps away from our hostel in the middle of town - big plus. We really enjoyed the pleasant nature of our bus driver and all her stories along the way to Milford sound. I also appreciated how she kept everyone running on time and didn't compromise anyone's trip for people running late. The bus was comfortable and clean and the drive was scenic and lovely to take in. The cruise itself was beautiful! Lots to see and take in. It is a full day (~10-12 hours), which can be tough, but overall very worth it.
