Full description
Trek along the world-renowned Routeburn Track in a small group of no more than 10 people on this 5-hour guided hike. Explore forgotten Maori paths, travel along their old greenstone trails, and soak up the spectacular natural scenery. Upgrade your experience to include hotel pickup and drop-off in central Queenstown.

From Queenstown, set off to the head of Lake Wakatipu, the ideal preparation for the splendor of the hike. As you travel northwest on a road that clings to the very edge of the lake, your guide will introduce you to the history and landscape of the region.

Upon arrival, make your way on this great walk in Mount Aspiring National Park with a gradual ascent through a magical world of ancient ferns, mosses, lichens, and beech forest. Find enchantment around every corner, and enjoy the scenic views and diverse wildlife.

Just 2.5 hours down the track, the woodland parts to reveal the rich grassland of Routeburn Flats, overlooked on all sides by cloud-scraping mountains, some so high they have permafrost. Stop at this pristine site for a delicious Kiwi style picnic lunch before turning and enjoying the valley in reverse.

Know before you go
• Although the track condition is excellent, sturdy footwear is always advised. In good weather, athletic shoes are adequate. This is an excellent guided option for the winter months also.
• This walk is best for people who are interested in variety, lakes, rivers, valleys, forests, mountain views, native birds or photography.
• The distance of the walk is entirely flexible depending on the fitness level of the people participating. You can enjoy anything from a 13-kilometer hike (just over 8 miles) to an 18-kilometer hike (about 11.2 miles).
