What people are saying about Purmamarca
This is a good tour if you don't have much time in Salta. You'll get to the Salinas and have a glance at Purmamarca and the surroundings. The guide will give you good explanations along the way. There's a couple of things you should know though. You will be spending a lot of time in a bus, you will have a good glance at the amazing scenery, but don't expect the bus to stop that often, so you can take pictures. At the Salinas you will have 40 minutes, which is just about enough to take some good pictures an walk around a little. At Purmamarca you will only have 30 minutes and you won't have the best glance at the 7 color mountain, since it will be noon. The bus ride is a hard one, since you will go up to 4000 meters in a short time. I don't recommend it for people with heart conditions, check with the agency first, or book a private ride with a car, which should be better in that case.
It is definitely a very long day, the road can be really bumpy and it is really tiring. Most of all remember that this tour takes you really high up, maximum of 4000 meter and as a result most of the participants sleep in the bus. A lot of driving, and although the spots are really amazing, I would not do it again in one day. You depart before 7am and get back after 9pm. Water and drinks are really needed, sickness transport medication can come handy with the curvy mountain roads, and sun protection highly recommended. The bus is - in my opinion - not really adequate for these bumpy not concrete roads and you may lack of comfort. Definitely not indicated if you have any neck or back injuries.
The tour was generally good, the landscapes are wonderful and the small villages visited are interesting as well. There’s a lot of driving on gravel roads (though through an area with lots of wildlife), the time in Salinas Grandes seemed a bit too long, while in Purmamarca it was too short, and there wasn’t a chance to really see the colourful hill. It would have been nice to explore the towns in the area s as bit more. The guide Cecilia was very nice, but there was a feeling that her stories in Spanish were much more expressive and extensive than in English.
This tour was excellent! It includes stops in Purmamarca, Cuesta de lipan, Salinas grandes and San antonio los cobres. Tilcara and Humahuaca are not part of the trip. Omar was an amazing guide, very sympathetic and knowledgable! Please be reminded that you will be in the bus most of the day due to the good distances. Some parts of the road are bumby, particularly from Salinas grandes to San antonio los cobres. However, the bus was in very good condition. You might want to bring sun protection, sunglasses and water and maybe a sweather. Enjoy the tour.
The views were amazing! The Salt flats were beautiful and we had a lot of fun taking pictures in the Salt Flats! Gala our tour guide was REALLY FANTASTIC!! She was super cool and very informative...as a native of Salta she was able to answer ALL our questions about the geography, history etc. She deserves a raise! Lovely tour. We would highly recommend!
