What people are saying about Portimão
The dolphin show was so good, and very moving. The beach and pools looked great, however the water was so cold that we could not go in, even the baby pool was freezing! To top it off, you have to pay 15 euros to have a sun lounger and also pay for lockers which doesn't get refunded. It was such a shame as the dolphins show was great and the Halloween theme was also good. Also you cannot bring a buggy into the pool area as you are forced to walk through an automatic shower before entering which completely soaks you and is also freezing! Top tip for this, the wooden part activates the shower, so if you're quick you can wait for it to stop, stand on the white part (which is small, not big enough for buggy!) and run through afterwards.
My friend and I visited the area in August 2019 - the height of summer. The tour itself was great. The boat trip along the coastline was fun and relaxed and the guilds were friendly & professional. However the caves themselves were crowded with over 100 people - everyone seemed to be there - which isn’t a fault of the tour but still made it less enjoyable. Small boats and other kyaka groups were all after the same caves and routes & made the waters rocky and difficult to navigate. I would recommend this tour, but maybe off peak or early in the morning as the crowds on the water and in the cave made the experience less enjoyable. Also take a waterproof pocket for your phone!!
We enjoyed our ride. Luis and Mauro are very professional; they made us feel very comfortable and there was a good atmosphere. But one thing must be said: this ride is for people who like big emotions and not for the fainthearted! There was wind when we took it and the boat was jumping really high up and down the waves so that was a bit scary. We all had life jackets so that was good but you are not attached to the seat. We were told by staff we were perfectly safe and I believe it's true... One of the kids on the boat was afraid but the other kids loved it! I recommend but a bit too adventurous for me!
It is super easy to book online or via the app. Louis and Mauro pick you up directly at the harbour. Parking is available there and for free Louis explained all the sights very well and managed to make us all feel super safe while being quite funny and entertaining. If you want to see the caves (and other sights which I won’t spoiler) from the seaside in a rather short amount of time this 2 hours are perfect!
Host were excellent and nature at its best. It is one of our best 2,5 hours spent, this trip is worth every penny. Ice tea was served in the boat, as complimentary. Loreonzo did excellent explanation and Miguel had excellent sense of humour with total control on the boat. All in all, one of the most memorable trip.
