What people are saying about Port Douglas
Semi submersible was good to see many thing that would be hard to see just snorkeling (eg stingray, turtles, large shelves of coral). Food was just plain not appetizing. But you get what you pay for. If you snorkel in the beginner area near the ship, the coral looks bleached and the formations and fish are very deep so it’s harder to appreciate their bright colors. If you can venture out a few meters past the beginner area, the reef is shallower and there are more schools of fish and sea life. Staff were mostly professional and helpful except for one, Maki. I hard difficulty with my swim gear and asked Maki if she had any tips and she snapped at me saying “go find someone else to ask.” Then she turned around and walked away. I don’t expect that type of customer service is tolerated by Quicksilver so I would hope that they have discussions addressing her issues.
I really enjoyed my tour of the Daintree rain forest. It was well organised and gave a great overview of this fantastic area. The group were quickly brought together and put at ease by our guide Dan, who did a fantastic job and pitched the tour at exactly the right level. All in all an excellent way to explore the Daintree with a nice combination of walks and a river cruise to see the crocs. Dan also acted above and beyond to step in and rescue a boy ( not part of our group) who had got into difficulty swimming in the Mossman Gourge.
Great experience - terrific environment-skilled and helpful instructors -great food -great catamaran. Smaller groups are better. Tried a large company to snorkel the outer reef. So much deeper therefore less to see when snorkelling. Totally impersonal. Low isles is a great experience with Sailaway who take very good care of you. Thanks To Blake and Augustine we had a terrific introduction to the Great Barrier Reef.
We picked this particular company as there was a substantial amount of time for snorkelling and diving. The staff were brilliant and our youngest child, who is nine years old, had a great guide throughout the day, who pointed out the various fish to her. She was the last snorkelled out of the water for both sessions as she loved it so much.
The tour guide, Ben was awesome and knew so much about the Daintree and the area. His commentary was outstanding and he was very interesting. The place we stopped for lunch was great, and somewhere we would not have visited on our own. I would have enjoyed a little bit of time to visit the Mossman Gorge shop or Daintree info centre.
