What people are saying about Placa del Rei
We were able to get our voucher printed at the Sant train station Information desk where they also then gave us our passports and got us on our way. We didn’t see that as a possibility in the information we were emailed, so it felt like a lucky find. Made things very easy. We only were able to utilize two days, as that was the duration of our stay (actually, just 1-1/2 days). But, even at that, it more than easily paid for itself. We saw several museums (Picasso, Dissemy, Míro, etc.) and sights (Parc Guell, Sagrada Família, etc.) and were able to traverse the entire city quickly and easily via the included bus and metro.
We booked this online and collected from one of the designated visitor centres (P. Catalunya) on our first day. We used the travel card extensively to get about the city on the metro and bus service; it was really useful and we even used it for the bus replacement service up to Montjuic (funicular service is currently suspended) Although we got in free to the MNCA it was Saturday and free admission anyway. We used it to get into the Barcelona history museum at Pl de Rei for free and a small reduction on the ticket for Casa Gaudi at Park Guell. Overall though I don't think this saved us much on our trip.
The card only gives you discounts if you buy tickets in the offices, where you have to stand in a long line. Many tickets can be bought online, and the card doesn't work there, which I find to be an oversight. As of now, it makes more sense to buy a transport ticket in a vending machine, and then buy all the entrance passes online — this way you will save more than with this card. Other than that, everything was fine.
The pass I think depends on how long you will be there - I am not convinced that was value for money as quite a lot of the activities were not free - you only received a discount - and the ones that were free were relatively inexpensive and you could purchase easily at the time with no great expense. The travel card was good and made life easy for getting around the city
It was just the two of us and a student so basically a private tour and Abel was a great guide, knew and shared so much about the neighborhood and Picassos life, background and evolution as an artist. Abel was a great guide and I highly recommend this tour to anyone and esp Abel as a guide!
