Full description
Take a short 5-minute ferry ride across beautiful Shoalwater Bay and head to the Discovery Centre to meet the world's smallest penguins.

On this 2.5-hour activity, use your ferry ticket to travel to the island. The ferry will drop you onto Penguin Island where you are free to explore at your own leisure.

Visit the Discovery Centre to see the 20-minute penguin feeding. If you have more time you can explore the island at your leisure: it's best to allow a minimum of 2 hours. Swim, snorkel (bring your own equipment) and enjoy a picnic. See nesting pelicans and other seabirds up close, especially in September and October when chicks are hatching. Use binoculars at the lookouts to spot dolphins and whales from September to December.

Catch any return ferry from the same jetty you get off, they are 10 minutes past each hour and the last ferry is at 4 PM.
Includes
  • Round-trip ferry ticket
  • Discovery Centre entry fee for penguin feeding

I took my 3 grandchildren 9,6 and 3 to the island to see the penguins and to have a picnic. The children enjoyed seeing the penguins being fed and on the lawn we had a picnic we had brought with us. The children then enjoyed building sandcastles on the beautiful safe beach.

We had recently visited the penguins at Phillip Island, but our visit to Penguin Island was better. Not only was the visit far cheaper, we were able to observe the rescued penguins up close. We also enjoyed the short ferry ride and the walk around the island to see nesting seabirds, caves and a sleeping sea lion. A great day out.
