Overall I really enjoyed visiting both production sites. However, I was not given the name or contact details of the tour guide before the tour. When I approached someone at the meeting point, he didn't recognise the name of the tour company. It turned out he was the minibus driver... The tour started 15 minutes late and although I was unable to access my ticket online, the guide said this wasn't a problem. I was one of two English speaking people on the tour. The guide made some effort to translate all information into English, however she was not fluent, and I got the impression that she went into more detail when explaining everything in Italian. It was great that we were able to see most of the stages of production.
The four hour tour was the perfect amount of time. The tour starts with a small Parmesan Reggiano tour where you can see up close how to make this amazing cheese. At the the end, you get to taste it too! Once done with the cheese, you move on to a much larger factory where the Parma ham is made and you get to see every step in the process. Obviously there is a tasting at the end too! I would not recommend this tour for small children as they will probably find it very dull.
A very interesting tour of the local gourmet foods . It was not rushed and there were a good mix of people . Our guide explained everything well in English . Care was taken in regard to safety and health issues .Those on the full day enjoyed an authentic lunch in a quiet cafe with a lovely ambience .
Good enough to learn about Parmegiano Regiano cheese and Parma Ham (Prosciutto). Nothing fancy but guide was knowledgeable and friendly. Good way to visit manufacturers and purchase cheese at a decent price.
Sylvia was our guide. We learned so much from her and she made us all feel welcome. There is no way we would get the same attention and information if we had done this on our own.
